Actually Doing It This Time

I am on Day 2 and 13.5 hours into my quit. I found that following Carr's thought of Final Cig to be great Help. I threw myself a virtual party at the time finished the final cig in a wonderful community that supports me daily. It is definitely a mind set and all about realizing that the urges will pass in only a few minutes and holding onto your resolve and continually say no to those urges!

The first day the urges came in as thoughts:

Just One More

Only One

You Quit, You deserve a cig

Just one more

One won't hurt

I was like ugh No,NO, NO, NO Not gonna do it this time!

That's great.  Keep working your quit plan and use the tools you identified and success is yours.   Remember where here to support you, so reach out anytime you need encouragement.

Happy Holidays.

Instead of dwelling on those thoughts - you might try changing your mind's direction.  Say (to yourself (OR out loud) - "Since I have decided I am not going to do that anymore, what else can I do?"  Then DO it.  Call a friend, go for a walk, march in place, clean out a drawer (or a closet!), play a game on the computer or your phone, come here and read.  The better you get at distracting yourself from those thoughts, the easier this is going to be.

Congrats on (almost) Day TWO!

Hello taracax,

Today is my second day as well and I can relate to your post. I’m thinking I should change my quit date to the new year, I’ll smoke where people can’t see (keep it secret), etc. The crazy thoughts go on and on. I’m trying to sit on the outside and take an honest look at this insane thinking. It helps me stay focused that all those thoughts are just me lying to myself to try to figure out a way to not quit smoking. It’s like my physical self and my mental self are out to sabotage me. But I’m doing it this time. I know all the triggers, etc. because I’ve tried to quit smoking a hundred times. I’m quitting this time. For good.
