On day 5, over my first beer in 30 days, I bought a pack and had two smokes. I had two this morning and destroyed the rest of the supply. Really don't want to resume the habit.
Welcome to the site. I just read some things on your page. I think it would be smart to stay away from alcohol for a while - very good thinking! Also, may I suggest some reading - it will really help. This does not have to be a battle. Read, read, read - read blogs here, the free course at: http://quitsmokingonline.com/ and Allen Carr's book - "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" -
You have some work to do, getting educated about the addiction and withdrawal will help you greatly. Go to whyquit.com and quitsmokingonline.com. Read at those sites, the blogs and responses here and go to members here and read their pages. there's great info, spend hours and hours and hours reading and you'll be successful too!
Thank you for posting about your relapse. This is my final quit. I have practiced quitting about half a dozen times before. Every time I lost my quit before - it was because I couldn't stand up to that little nicodemon. I let the triggers shoot me in the foot!
NOT THIS TIME ...this is the last one - and posts like yours remind me how badly those relapses made me feel. so, thank you for being honest. Thank you for reminding me how that feels.
I am 63 days into this quit and I intend to just keep on going.
Remember that you will never regret the one you never light!
OK, I'm gonna take the hard ass attitude here. There's no such thing as a "slight relapse,"soldier. Every relapse encourages the next. Just as every cigarette not smoked, as every pack not purchased encourages the next moment of freedom. If you really don't want to resume the habit then you really have to keep it out of your mouth. You see, though it was only five days, you had gotten the nicotine out of you body. With two cigarettes you put it all back in there. Now your body is back to the "I WANT" mode which was just beginning to lessen. So, you learned that alcohol is A Number 1 Relapse Territory. Remember it. There are many minefields out there. Study them well and you won't blow your quit in the future. Glad you're here. We're all aiming at the same target. May you become a brilliant marksman.
Thanks for the feed back. I did make it through the rest of the day without a smoke, however, the medicated gum was in full force. It's now 5:25 AM here where I have a heavy work schedule head of me.....the stakes and pressure are to the stratoshere; it's days like this that reaffirm the notion that: to be self-employed is an act of the insane! If I can get through today without nicotine indulgence, I should be able to get through anything.
