A Confession....

but first .......  I signed in to post a blog, and see some of the other blogs of the morn....including AZTEC.  Sometimes it's as though we are reading each other's minds, I love when these "unofficial themes" show up!

Anyways, for many years I was one of those "head in the sand" smokers.  When those annoying anti-smoking commercials came on, I'd quickly change the station, and sometimes step outside for a cigarette "break" with an attitude of defiance.  Of course, I was hoping that my kids didnt notice the commercial or the channel flipping, I certainly didn't want to hear their "see, Mom?"  comments.  It was as though IF I DIDNT KNOW, then those nasty effects wouldn't happen to me.  Cancer, Emphysema..... those were for "other people"  and then we started seeing commercials for COPD medications, I mean, REALLY.......who made THAT ONE UP???  A conspiracy of the pharmaceutical companys for sure!  Of course I knew that smoking was "bad" for me; and of course I knew that second hand smoke was "bad" for my kids, but hey, "we didnt smoke in the house!"

(In recovery programs we call this kind of irrational thought process "denial" - ha!)

Now, I'm eager for the facts and research and I'm saddened for the unwillingness to know TRUTH.  both mine and others.  Sometimes I want to ask..............do you REALLY  know how you're killing yourself?
