A Challenge to the Newly Quit

 I found a new doctor to talk about quitting (I jettisoned mine of many years after asking for his advice for the very first time and his response was, "get some carrot and celery sticks, slap on a patch and you will be good to go")  My new doctor said something that I took as kind of a challenge., "More people in the US have quit smoking than are still smoking.  Do you think they are all better than you?"

I thus want to challenge the newly quit!  Do YOU think we who have been successful are somehow better than you?

(Hoping your answer is, "of course not" and you act accordingly to prove it!)

GREAT "CHALLENGE"------as I always say to newbies------we all quit and we are NO DIFFERENT from you.

How about "better off not smoking?"

We really are all the same when we are in recovery, if you think that your addiction is worse or more powerful and that we don't understand...you are allowing yourself to suffer from "Terminal Uniqueness"...notice I said TERMINAL.  No crave ever killed anyone but no one can say that about smoking.  Take the challenge...show us and yourself what you REALLY are made of.

Are you kidding?  Quitting was a piece of cake!  Unsweetened, no salt, glucose free, not fluffy, hard, a flavor I hated and almost indigestible.  But I ate it and survived.  And actually - now - it's really tasty!  Pure, organic, smoke-free air.  Amazing what it can do for you!

But I gotta admit that cake was pretty bitter in the beginning.  Which I think is par for the course.  Unless you're Allen Carr who got a lot of sugar with his book publication.  It takes a bit of time for our palates adjust.

I smoked until a vascular surgeon informed me of the damage I had done to myself by doing so. I quit 11 years ago, and I can swim laps virtually FOREVER now, walk most other days 40 minutes to an hour and a half. What a difference quitting has made in my life! I strive to help others find this wonderful freedom from addiction, too.
