5 miles for 5 years!

Since I wrote a blog last year saying that I walked 4 miles on my 4 year anniversary, I felt it only made sense to do 5 miles today!  You see, when I first quit 5 years ago, I could barely walk 1 mile! You know how I did it and increased it - by thinking of the many people here who couldn't do it. I walked for them! Somehow that helped! I felt better and better as time passed! Now I continue to walk because it feels so good to feel strong again!

Although 5 years may sound like a long time to many here, I still recall thinking - how will I do 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months??? But, by sticking close here and listening to SO MANY very wise people here, I kept moving forward! And, you know what - many of those very wise people are still here paving the way! Thank you to all of those wonderful elders!! (I won't name names for fear of leaving someone out.)  And, as I always say, thank you to those coming behind me for always reminding me of the beauty and the glory in the quit!

Love you all!

5 years is awesome; I am so happy for you!  Yes, sticking close is the answer I believe, and never ever forgetting how much we wanted to quit when we WERE smoking.

Kathy, HUGE CONGRATS to you on your 5 year CELEBRATION!!  I am truly happy for you.  I think that is a really cool way to celebrate with the 5 mile walk; in fact, I may just steal that idea from you.

Seriously, you are an amazing woman.  You have always seemed to pop up just at the right moment when I was in trouble with my quit.  You are one of many that I will be forever grateful to!

Did Barbara say "icing on the cake"?   Hmmmm......maybe you should do that too!!

What a long journey we have traveled together, Kathy!

5 Years already and yet it seems sometimes another lifetime ago that we were newbies  and very short at times, too!

5 Years - 5 Miles! Spectacular!

When I first started walking and I was huffing and puffing up hills, sweating like a pig, bent over panting like a dog, I used to think about a member here who had started on oxygen and was fighting for every breath with COPD.

Suddenly my struggles to catch my breath up the hills didn't seem so bad.

I kept at it and now I huff and puff up bigger hills from time to time:

"Thank you to all those wonderful elders..."  Thank you for being one yourself, Kathy,  who continue to the pave the way.  And as we know, the best way to pave it by maintaining our quits and sinking our footsteps ever deeper into the quitting path for other to follow.  Keep walking for everybody!  Beautiful, Beautiful 5!

I love the heck out of you, Kathy.  I hope you know that.

Oregon, here you come!  And ASAP, Girl!  As soon as you get yourself moved and settled...right?  You promised!  Well...maybe you only tentatively committed, but still...

Also, I need you to come up to Reston for a weekend in July.  I'll let you know the specific dates as soon as I get my July flying schedule on June 18th.  It will be a weekend at my condo in Reston with you, me, Ellen, DJ, Nancy and Brenda M.  Honestly, it won't work without YOU, so look at your calendar and let me know if any specific weekend absolutely won't work for you, okay?

Love you!!!!   Sky  (Btw, you didn't get the credit you deserved for all the great work you did for the Reading of the Blogs brunch in Nashville!  Hey, everyone, it was KATHY who did all those incredible decorations, make the posters, helped me grocery-shop and everything else.  Kathy is amazing!!)

Kathy, thank you for your encouragement, I have a cat also, she's 5. I walked a mile this summer and have quit for 444 days today, I never thought I could do this now that I have emphysema but I did. I am hoping to walk further this summer with practice., I am proud to see you walking 5 miles for 5 years, I hope I can do that when my 5 years comes around. Congratulations and thanks for writing. I hope you get this as when  I signed in, it took me to a different page and I couldn't find you.

Hugs, Jazzy
