For some strange reason I have more trouble breathing recently than before, for example its like I have to take deeper breaths to get in the desired air. Yet, I went running today and I did a mile easily without stopping. It is very strange...

Same thing happened to me. No reason whatsoever. It passes and then happens less frequently. I have no idea why.

I am 65 days smoke free and have been having the same problem at time. I just think "Wow just think how it would be if I was still a smoker"? Maybe it's allergies, or maybe it's just life reminding us that we have to stay quit.

I feel that way too....like I have to pay attention to get a deep breath. That's been going on with me for a few months and what gave me the impetus to really quit this time. But the breathlessness makes me stress and anxious and probably makes it worse! I think that's one reason why I haven't made myself go to the gym -- I'm scared to find out that I can't do cardio like I did a year ago.

me too. i dont like it. it is spring & could be allergies but just feels like i "smoked too much last night" most days. my cousin quit Jan because she got really sick. after she got better she still couldnt breathe well the dr says she has asthma & has likely had it all her life, but since she began smoking at 14 (she's 47 now) the smoking acted as a bronchodialater & kept the asthma "at bay" all these years. now that she is a non-smoker she has to take asthma meds everyday forever to help her breathe. she is so strong because, personally....that would be my trigger! duh! but she is happy not smoking & it just "is what it is".

but based on her experience, i do wonder if those of us with some trouble breathing is slightly due to minor effects of that coupled with the fact that our lungs are no longer getting any exercise! we are not inhaling! we are not exercising! makes sense i suspect. so maybe i should go walk more & see how my lungs feel. anyone have experience to share on lung capacity after walking more?

KUDOS to the gal that ran a mile! that is my next goal! i want to run!

Anxiety breathing here too! Actually is what sent me to the doctor a few years back for help in quitting. I could not get an extra deep breath in and the harder I tried the worse it got.Well I didn't quit back then because he told me it would put me over the edge. Said I was stressed blah blah blah, anyway, I suffered with that for the past few years and it got alot worse after I quit. I self diagnosed anxiety. And the more I concentrate on not getting enough breath, the worse it gets. I believe my smoking has masked the anxiety for years now. Now with that said, I have noticed that this is not happening daily any longer, it is sometimes happening maybe once every two weeks? I think it is becuase I am learning to live the life of the nonsmoker and deal with stress and anxiety so much better. It is scary and frustrating, it got better for me. Good luck and call your doc if you think you should, no one knows your body better than you do.

I've had exactly the same thing - tightness in the chest but find it easier to walk. My breathing loosens up by the time I finish my walk. So I think either some sort of circulatory/pulmonary thing or anxiety. Very odd and unexpected. Interesting to hear that I'm not the only one with the issue.
