Hi, I'm new here and I'm really getting some helpful hints here! I've been a smoker for 17yrs usually a pack a day keeps the hunger away (i'm afraid of gaining weight). I'm currently using the patches just hoping i can cut those out as soon as possible! My 2 year old daughter is the main reason I quit, but her tantrums right now are one the reasons i want to light up. Anyone out there have any advice on trying to quit with a child going through her terrible (and i do mean terrible) twos?

I know that has to be hard, but I hope that the strength of your conviction to quit (along with the patches) will get you through.  I am using patches too.  I smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day for 30 years.  It's hard for me and nobody's in the house but me.  A few years ago I babysitted for a 2 year old and everyday I would go to the mall and sit while that kid ran his eyeballs out in the little play area that they had there.  It tired him out pretty good and was no trouble the rest of the day.  I hope something like that for you.  I believe in you and I believe that you can do it.  Take it from another who has fallen off of too many wagons to count!!  My money is on you!!

I don't know where you live, but any physical activity outside is what I would do when my girls were small. The park playgrounds, the beaches, where they could run off their energy, and it was good for me, too, being outside. We also used to go to playgroups. Pack some snacks together and head out the door. It's great if you can find another mom with a 2-year old to do things with, too. You are doing a great job! Hang in there.

For me, smoking was the reason I felt so stressed.  After that first week or so of not smoking, you will feel amazingly more pateint, less stressed more relaxed.  The anxiety of when you're gonna have anohter smoke creates a lot of stress.  Physical exercise is awesome too. You can do this, even with a 2-year-old. Better to do it now before becomes a TEENAGER!  🙂

Thanks for all the kind words. I actually just went out and bought "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" book!  It's so hard when you've smoked so long that it over takes everything. Smoking was one of the coolest things you could do back in the day but now feel like a social reject. I can telling myself I'm not TRYING to quit I AM GOING TO QUIT!
