Ok. Honest to God. It has been 38 days and counting and I have NOT cheated!!! Not one puff.

By now I thought it would be easier. It's not. I still think about cigarettes everyday. Right now, I could really go for one. Last night I dreamed that I smoked 2 whole packs and I was like on my way to go get another pack. Ever since I woke up this morning, I have been thinking of cigs. I'm still thinking about them. That's why I'm on here, I guess.

But, I'm going to keep the faith and hope alive. NOPE - Not One Puff Ever

So far so good!

Great job! It really gives me some insight on a longer quit since I only made it 40 hours.

I still have smoking dreams once in awhile. We're not light switches. It does take some time to get used to the reality of being a non-smoker. But I believe that you'll get there.

I am 148 days and still think about them sometimes. Thats the problem in itself.WHat I have been told is You are still a smoker who quit not a nonsmoker who enjoys being free of the cigarettes. WHen I remember that, it gets better for me. I have bad moments because my husband still smokes and I miss the time I spent sitting and relaxing and just talking with him in the evenings on the porch. I don't really crave smoking. I had to learn to stop romancing the cigarette and not think of it as something I lost. I had to start thinking of it a something nasty, gross and disgusting that smelled bad and was trying to hurt me that I REMOVED, I didn't lose anything! Each time you think about the cigarette, take a drink of water and a deep breath. Eventually you do stop thinking about them. When my hubby isn't around, I don;t think about them unless I am on here or I pass someone smoking.

The smoking dream is a positive sign -- that your quit has now reached even your subconscious mind. There's information on the smoking dream at whyquit.com -- articles and an video. The audio podcast on "Smoking Dreams" is linked in the audio player on my page here if you would like to learn more. Almost every quitter has "the smoking dream".

I call it your brain's last hoorah for smokes, keep fighting; it knows you are winning, so it is playing dirty, but as you fight your way through, it gets easier. I am like Sandra, in most of my life they are no longer a part, now if I am around a smoker I see them, but I do not want one. I remind myself of what my abusive ex will do to me given the chance and I think NOPE...it gets better as time goes by, so hold on, the ride is rough and sometimes wild, but it is worth it in the end!!!

38 days compared to how many years smoking and how many times a day? Don't be hard on yourself. Brain has been wired a long time to smoke. Just accept the fact that you are going to think about them, even think about wanting one at this stage of the process. Completely and totally normal. Just keep going. The more time you put between that last puff and the present, the daily thoughts will become less and less until they just disappear. But remember too, education is key, because as long as you think abusing yourself with addictive chemicals is a good thing in any way, you'll find an excuse to go back. Your life and your quality of life are worth protecting! 🙂 Congratulations on the decision to stay quit with 38 days and counting!

P.S. Remember too, thoughts are just thoughts...we don't have to act on them...ever....can you imagine what a crazy world it would be if we did act on all our thoughts? Yikes. 🙂

Reading over all of this, I just can't believe I went back to smoking. My longest quit ever and I blew it. Oh well. Today is day three and it's amazing to me how much money I've already saved.
