3 Days since I quit vaping

It's been 3 days since I quit vaping. I've been vaping for almost 10 years and quit a week before my 25th birthday. I definitely still think about vaping every day and am fighting that inner voice inside of me that says "just one more hit".

My boyfriend booked us a trip to Paris 6 months out from my quit date, and if I can make it till then, I get this reward. If not, everything is refundable and it is 100% canceled. Obviously, I'm not quitting just for this trip, but something to look forward to is nice.

Any tips and advice regarding quitting vaping is much appreciated. This is my 4th time quitting and I think this will be my last time. I am quitting cold turkey.

@Hitherehelen What a great decision to quit! Congratulations on 3 days!🎊🎉🎊🎉. I'm glad you reached out for help. Quitting is hard work. I put my head in the freezer and breathed the cold air when I had bad craves. I did it many times a day. Keep telling yourself, " I don't vape any more!" Go for a walk or change your routine or the room you are in. You just need to get through the crave and they don't last that long. Whatever you do, don't vape. One puff will only set you back. You are craving the nicotine and must not give in because it will reactivate the nicotine receptors in your brain. Try some or all of these things. Others will be along to help. Hang in there. You can do it.

Welcome to our community!

Congratulations on your decision to quit vaping! It's common sense that anything you put in your lungs that isn't clean air can't be good for you! You will need to substitute “vape” or “device” as you do the reading I will recommend. Research suggests nicotine may be as addictive as heroin and cocaine. Because vaping is available to you most anywhere, anytime, I believe it might be more difficult from which to break free than regular tobacco products - but it CAN be done! There is a blog written by one of our success stories that you might find informative: I Quit Smoking and Vaping - EX Community . If you would like to use a quit aid and would like information on the various ones, let me know.

I recommend that you educate yourself on what nicotine does to your body and mind To that end, I suggest Allen Carr's “The Easy Way to Stop Smoking.”, which can be purchased online or borrowed from your local library. Here is a video to inform you further about nicotine addiction : Nicotine and Your Brain.

The idea is to change up your routines so the vaping associations are reduced. Drink your coffee with your OTHER hand in a place different from where you vaped. Maybe switch to tea for a bit. If you always had that first puff with your coffee, try putting your tennies on right out of bed, going for a quick walk, then taking your shower and THEN your coffee! Rearrange the furniture in the areas you used to vape so the view is different. Take a different route when you are out and about so you aren't driving by your vaping supply shop. Take the Daily Pledge each day, Just look for it on the home page. It helps to hold yourself accountable to your quit and the community..

You need to distract yourself through any craves. You can take a bite out of a lemon (yup - rind and all), do a few jumping jacks, go for a brisk walk or march in place, play a computer game. Keep a cold bottle of water with you from which to sip. Don't let that vaping thought rattle around in your brain unchallenged. You will need to be disciplined in the early days to distract yourself when a crave hits. Get busy! Here is a list of things to do instead of vape if you need some fresh ideas:

101 Things to Do Instead of Smoke - EX Community

The conversation in your head in response to the "I want to vape" thought needs to be, "Well, since I have decided not to do that anymore, what shall I do instead for the three minutes this crave will last?" Then DO it. You will need to put some effort into this in the early days, but it gets easier and easier to do.

Stay close to us here and ask questions when you have them and for support when you need it. We will be with you every step of the way!

@Hitherehelen Welcome to the Ex and congrats on your quit.  Glad you found us. No matter the source, nicotine is an addictive chemical so yes it can be hard to quit. The fact that you vape almost anywhere doesn't make it any easier.

The same principles to quit smoking will apply to your quit. It's important to educate yourself about nicotine and have a quit plan. Knowledge and preparation have been made quitting possible for many of us. I never did neither in the past and I was never successful. I was planning my quit this time and found the Ex a week before my quit date. I finally learned how to quit and how important support from other quitters can be. Read lots of material on the site. This link is a great place to start.

Quitting Guides

Believe in yourself that you can do it. Approaching your quit one day at a time helps to alleviate much of the anxiety we experience when we think about quitting.

We're here to support you so reach out anytime you need help, want to share your experience, and to support other quitters. Join many of on the Daily Pledge to stay on track one day at a time.

If  you're able, walking is a great way to refocus your thoughts and get an added boost of dopamine

Your upcoming trip is a great motivator, but don't forget to reward yourself along the way as you achieve milestones.  Those rewards reinforce behavioral changes.

Stay busy and stay close. Keep us updated on your journey!

Time to put the nicotine addiction in its place and push it out of your life, FOREVER.  No benefits of continuing to feed the addiction, it takes and doesn't give.  Make sure to USE your distractions and tools.....blow through a straw, etc.  whatever you decide to use.  Just remember, you cannot feed the monster, because the monster will NEVER be full.  The monster always wants more and more.  It has taken enough of you, onwards and upwards to a rewarding life that doesn't include an addiction.  Stay strong and get through this one hour, one day at a time.

Congratulations on 5 days. Although vaping has been your method of taking nicotine, try to keep it strong in your mind that it is nicotine that is calling to you. The stuff of our addiction to nicotine are the details, but it all boils down to nicotine. If cigarettes had no nicotine, if vapes provided no nicotine, there would be no strong pull "just one more." That's the call of addiction.

You quit, you've come here and joined a quit community, you're looking forward to a trip to Paris!!! Great work. Stay solid, keep believing in yourself, do all that you can, but just one day at a time.

Welcome to Ex!!!
