Feeling happy that I have quit but still not feeling great like I see others are.  All of my joints feel achy everything hurts still short of breath at times and I am not sleeping well.  Just wondering if anyone else experienced this?   I have read that some of this is normal I guess I just thought I would be feeling better by now.  Working makes it easier because I never smoked there so I don't think about it but craves are still sometimes very strong, hoping things feel better soon.

Hi Paul, My name is Stephen and I am in Melbourne Australia, I quit  a 43 year habit of tobacco and cannabis 3 months tomorrow and I know what you are going through. Lots of recovery symptoms. I have heard it called "smokers flu" and it sucks! I am not sure how long you smoked for, but all I can say is the body takes time to get rid of years of abuse and lots of weird stuff happens meanwhile. I just keep thinking that somewhere in the future it all gets better and every day not smoking is a good day. I personally have had depression, anger,a runny nose, a chest cough, aches and pains but a visit to the doc.is a good idea as anti depessants, pain killers and a nasal spray helps big time. The runny nose is your blood vessels opening up again and working properly, the cough is your cilia in the lungs starting up again, the depression is your mind trying to re-adjust to your new life style without your baby dummy ciggies and everything else will eventually get better the longer you go without. Hang in there Paul your life is too precious to give in , be strong and all the best, Regards Stephen (akaStiffee)

Sorry Paula there should have been an A after your name with my posting, my stuff up.

Be strong anyway, you are doing good, the hardest part is making the right decision, the next bit is staying on the right side of the fence and just keep staying strong. It will get easier, all the best Stiffee

Congrats on 22!   Don't give up!   I like what Stephen said above, alot of education there.   And I agree, a visit to the dr wouldn't hurt, just to put your mind at rest.  I have had the aches and running nose too.   Been thinking the aches is my fibromyalgia and runny nose allergies but it could be the smokers flu too.   I smoked for alot of years.

Stay strong and stay close.

It takes as long as it takes.  You have to accept that and remember that at least you're not actively making things worse so eventually they'll probably get better.  But there's no deadline for that.  It happens slowly and one day you feel better.

Hi there friend!

I was emotionally, spiritually and mentally awesome early in my quit but PHYSICALLY...I was like you...Joints ached, tired, sleeplessness, short of breath…I kept reading how folks were exercising, cleaning, taking classes!!!  All I could do was go to work and come home & watch TV!!! For me it was 3 months before my body started feeling better…My sense of smell and taste improved and as I say I was joyful in many ways but…It took a while for the physical part. xo

Thanks all for the encouraging words once again!  I will have patience and I will continue to be smoke free:)  Glad to hear others have felt like I do and I will try to keep busy and motivated as I wait to feel better.  It was a 30 year addiction so I guess my body deserves as much time as it needs to recover.  Thanks again, this site and each of you just help me so much on this journey, no one seems to understand how I am feeling except here,  XO
