2008 Draws to a close, 2009 is just over the horizon......I'm a NON-smoker

Non-smoking section please. That feels good! The fact that I seriously dislike cigarette smoke feels really good too. I try to meditate on a daily basis and I have found that since I have quit smoking my meditations are greatly improved and even more meaningful. Not to imply that they weren't before I quit. Setting up a cycle of rhythmic breathing and quieting the noisy mind is a great thing for me to do. Lately I have been including a concentration exercise centered on breathing in and then FEELING the oxygen course into my circulatory system. WHAT A RUSH....... 🙂

As a consequence of continued POSITIVE thinking and ATTITUDE I'm headed into the new year with 6 months of healing under my belt and the MINDSET that I will never do that stupid crap to myself again. I have the attitude that the path I am following now is a VERY GOOD route to take. IT FEELS GOOD because it is. This following simple exercise causes positive association and PLEASURE to become ingrained in me and I have actively attached it to BREATHING! So I say try stopping for a just a couple of moments at a time, ten times a day, the noisy chatter in your head and just BREATHE.

Think about how GREAT that simple little autonomous act, that we don't think about too much, REALLY IS! It should make you feel really great that you are still breathing. Sounds silly maybe? NOT TO ME! The longer I stay free from smoking the better my breathing continues to get and thus the greater PLEASURE I derive and the FARTHER away I get from the FALSE pleasure of a cigarette. Actually that memory of smoking is almost gone. I would have to struggle to recall the act myself and LIE TO MYSELF to even attempt to attach pleasure to it. It seems a foreign thing JUST AS IT SHOULD. I associate it with displeasure and death JUST AS I SHOULD.

2009 is going to be a great SMOKE FREE YEAR, I CAN FEEL IT!

Thanks for the sweet words Papa Jimmy. I forget to breathe deeply so often. I am a breath holder and smoking gave me a reason not to notice that all my life. Now I am learning to breathe again. I will take your good example and add visualizing oxygen flowing into my body when I meditate.
Blessings!

I like this post Jimmy...I have always thought my meditations would be deeper without being a smoker. It is encouraging to hear that.
