I know you should work up to the quit day, but I find that I am the sort of person that says, I will start tomorrow or next week... that tomorrow or next week never comes.

Anyways I have been smoking since I was 19 (am 25 now), and have always been in school which has been my excuse for not being able to quit.  "I want to succeed in school, and if I dont smoke the stress will kill me... blah blah bullshit".

Well, yesterday morning I woke up, saw I only had 4 cigarettes left, and thought to myself... I am going to quit.  So I drove to Target, got step-1 patches (and some other stuff), and finished those last cigarettes.

I officially quit at 1:05 PM on April 16, 2011.  I really hope this is the real thing.  I feel good about it, I am allowing myself to believe the benefits of quitting and the hazards that come with smoking.  I even have a really stressful difficult take home quiz due tomorrow, but I am going to beat the stress without cigarettes and kick this quizzes ass!

Hang in there, and keep educating yourself on quitting.  This support site rocks!

Hope and Luck are the worst  ideas you could lean on to quit smoking.

Neither one will do it

You know there are no more excuses once you've started.

If there are, you will fail.

Check out www.whyquit.com. Determination is only one of the things that you will need to protect your quit. Knowledge I found was the most valuable thing. Knowledge helps you help yourself. Second was the support from this site, my doctor and my friends.

There are other things that are better suited to help you curb stress than smoking. Working out, healthy eating and stress management are all far better choices than smoking which never helped anything but fueling your addiction. You can soooo so this. You got this and I am proud of you for your quit. Now bust a move and get the tools required to make it a one time quit!

Hang in there. Inform yourself as much as you can about the negatives of smoking. BELIEVE them, and believe in yourself. Go to www.whyquit.com

Write a list of POSITIVES of why you are quitting. Drink water, herbal tea, juices. Exercise, exercise exercise when you get a craving—get your endorphins up! Have a PLAN in place for your triggers. Your trigger seems to be stress, so when it happens, what will you do? Take a bath! Go for a walk! Do some yoga! Do ANYTHING but smoke. Just for today, tell yourself there is no excuse to smoke a cigarette.

And this has helped me: Think like a "non-smoker!" Think about OTHER things than smoking a cigarette.

You have found your BIGGEST FANS! There is a ton of support here... when you feel weak, or have any questions, or need any support, the folks here respond immediately. We know you can do it!

Congrats on making the best decision you could ever make for yourself.

Oh my gosh! That is the greatest picture ever! Thank you everyone! I am so glad that I am being more vocal about quitting this time around. I look forward to everyone's support and helping support others.  I know that breaking habits can only be done with others, never alone!

Right now I am so busy with school, that focusing on that will definitely take my my mind off smoking, but I anticipate when time frees up I will struggle a bit more, but I do love exercising, and these sugar free candies and patch and lots of fruit and water have helped so far... 1 more hour and it will be a day since my last smoke!

Welcome to the site! Congrats on deciding to quit! I am a big pusher of reading - blogs here, the free course at:   http://quitsmokingonline.com/ and Allen Carr's book - both mentioned above by Maggie! The support here is fantastic - stick around! You have come to the right place!
