Hi... WELCOME! I just quit today! My quit date was also for this coming monday,I decided to do it today. I have tried all sorts of gadgets, gum, meds, etc. etc. To find myself buying two more packs each time. This time I feel i'm ready. This site is amazing to say the least. If you keep reaching out you will be overwhelmed with how compassionate and understanding non smokers can be!!! Air is FREE,nicotine is not. I always thought I enjoyed smoking.Recently I had realized that I was smoking about 25 cigs a day! I really don't recall smoking that many! It had such a control over me that I didn't even notice them anymore,The only things that I noticed was I felt like crap, smelled like crap and coughing up crap! I'm looking forward to feeling better, sucking in all the brisk fresh air I can 25 times a day!!! YOU can do this too my friend. One day at a time, one deep breath at a time. What a blessing. Peace.Deborah

We are all in this together,How can we screw it up?!:)

Hello,

I have set my quit date for Dec 25th! I am actulaly going to change it to Dec 26th b/c with family around on the 25th it will be too much of a challenge. I am ascared and nervous. But I am gearing myself up. I am reading Alan Carr's book now...hoping to be inspired as so many others have on this site.

The people here are amazing! Good Luck!

The main thing is to understand what quitting is.

It is an addiction.

The physical addiction is to nicotine.

The psychological addiction is the habit.

As long as you smoke to get nicotine you are physically addicted.

I would assign nicotine as only 10% of the difficulty.

The other 90% is undoing those smoking memories that are connected to daily feelings and emotions.

If you quit willingly and aren't fighting with yourself It takes a little over 4 months to begin to stop thinking of smoking continually  or yourself as a smoker. but this is the first step.

Tell us what your plan is. If you are using any aids, etc and we will be able to better help you.

This is all about relearning life without smoking and being willing to do so.

If I can quit anone can. I've smoked for nearly 60 years. Today is my 15th day without lighting up. I've learned one thing that helps me. I just conquer the urge one at a time. You can do it.
