1st real blog ever

this is my 1st blog ever. i don't even have a clue that anyone will want to read it. but here goes...
i started smoking after my 1st son was born, in 1968. my doctor said that every time i wanted to eat something, instead, smoke a cig and that would curb my appetite.
it worked !!! within a year i was back to 119 pounds, instead of 200 pounds.
i don't blame him for getting me started on cigs, back then it was not known about the harm they could do, or if it was known, it was not widely known yet.
through the years i have enjoyed smoking. recently i have not enjoyed it so much, and i have tried many times to quit, to no avail.
now i am actually tired of the smoking, for many reasons, and still do not seem to be able to quit.
i am known as a very strong-willed person, in fact of the matter, lol, actually hard headed, but that does not seem to help me in this situation. i am hopeing that this site is my answer

. I AM REALLY READY TO QUIT !!!

Welcome!

You CAN be successful if you take the information and advice offered here and on other sites.  Most important of all, you need to read Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking.:  While I never wrapped my mind around it being easy, some people have, and, regardless, this is an excellent information source on what nicotine does to your mind and body.  Here is a link to a free PDF version of it:

 http://media.wix.com/ugd/74fa87_2010cc5496521431188f905b7234a829.pdf

Also read the information that is on this site, whyquit.com and quitsmokingonline.com.  Do the tracking and separation exercises they suggest..

AFTER you have done all this, you will be ready to make your quit plan, including what quit aid, if any, you will use, what crave buster supplies you need to have on hand, and then set your quit date.

Immediately before your quit, you will get rid of all cigarettes, ashtrays, lighters.  You will have your plan/supplies in place to deal with any cravings.  The idea is to distract yourself when you get a crave.  It only lasts for three minutes, so take a brisk walk, do a few jumping jacks, play a computer game, crochet, do a crossword puzzle - anything to get your mind and hands busy.

You CAN do this.  We can help.  Be sure to blog whenever you need advice or support.  Someone is always around to lend a helping hand!

How and when are you planning on quitting? Make sure you get as much information as you can and make a "quit kit". Buy candy, sunflower seeds straws... whatever you think you will need to help you quit.
We are here to support you. You can do this!

Welcome!  You have already gotten great advice.  Just know there are several of us who Quit at "mature" ages and are doing great.  I smoked for 45 years and Quit at age 62.  It can be done.

yes you did come to the right place.  Plently of support here.  I quit using the patch. it really helped with the cravings. I am also 60.  I quit at 59 so its been over a year. Like it has been suggested outside of the patch I also used toosie pops. Boy did I eat a lot of those the first month or two.  I don't know about anyone else but I had a real craving for sugar durning that time. Don't even worry about your weight during that time. Its just importqant to keep the nico monster away.  After about 4 or 5 monthes I would worry about the weight.

You will really be surprised at how good you will feel.. The tiredness you always feel will disappear and you will probably feel 10 years younger. The pains all over the body will disapper too. I always thought they were just old age but they weren't . Your breathing will be so much better. You will be able to go up and down stairs with no problem.

So prepare yourself with the tools you will need and do this. we will be her to help.
