so today i really put into action the separation of the actions and the smoking. I found that my triggers mainly consist of coffee, meals, driving and being bored. Although I'm cutting back how much i smoke in a day conisiderably I'm hoping that when my quit date approaches i'll be able to stick  to my goal and push through the urge to smoke.

It sounds like you are doing the right things to get prepared. Do all the reading you can. Learn as much about nicotine addiction and the process of quitting as possible. Knowledge and preparation are vital to success. You can do this and become a non smoker but it is not about hoping. It is about making a decision that you will not smoke no matter what. That smoking is not an option no matter what is happening in your life and no matter how you feel. Then all you have to do is honor your decision and keep your promise to yourself. Congratulations on making a wonderful decision, you can do this, we will all be here to help you help yourself. The following are just a few of the resources available to you.

We are glad you are here.

Oh if you stick around here you will be able to,and if you read the links Bobby just gave you it will be much easier. Especially the Allen Carr book.

But keep working on yer triggers because there are aspects to that that really help too. Mine was also being bored,as in waiting for the bus. since my car broke, but anyway. Someone said carry a book and read, I find this hard when I am standing up, so I loaded up my mp3 player full of music, and also Joel at whyquit.com has Mp3s they are a little hard to hear, but you will have to turn them up. They are labeled day 1, day 2 etc. Listen to those everyday while you are bored, kill two birds with one stone. Trust me, you will not feel like smoking when you are listening to what Joel has to say.

Good luck to you, and if we did't say it before Welcome to Becomean ex. Smiley welcome 0005a.gif

Welcome to the site!  Bobby and Melissa make really good points about doing the reading and knowing your triggers.  This is a great place to get support to quit.  Have faith that you can absolutely do this.  Many of us were scared and uncertain in the beginning, we have learned to quit and maintain our quits.  You can do this too.

Don't hope to stick to your Quit - expect to and you will.

gee those same 4 were everyone's here.

just tell yourself to wait a little longer when you want one and you will automatically smoke less.

I say don't limit it to so many a day and taper off to nothing.

That becomes  perpetual torture at the end.

Just learn about what drives you to smoke so you can flow with those when the nicotine is stopped. Learning you do not have to smoke every time you get the urge is very empowering in itself.
