10 days smoke free!! :-)

So today is my 10th day smoke free and I feel pretty good! The past two days have been kinda tough for me. It has been raining and kinda boring and I think that is what had me tempted.  When will I stop thinking about smoking? I know it is just my head talking and it was such a habit for me, but I would like to eventually not think about it all the time.

Since I'm on this site a lot and live with 2 smokers that smoke in the house cause I don't have any children I never quit thinking of smoking.  This is the change that has helped me - "I don't smoke because I can't smoke" has changed to "I don't smoke because I don't want to smoke"!  The cravings get less and less but my problem is that I always want something in my mouth so I eat a lot which has caused me to gain some weight but not a lot.  Drink lots of water or sips of water that help with the hand to mouth action and there is something in there and it is refreshing!  Glad you have 10 days smoke free!

Hey Mama J!

LOL!  Patience dear Lady!  There does come a time when you don't think about a cigarette constantly....in the meantime, find something else to occupy your mind......daydream about the awesome vacation you can take now that you are saving close to $10 a day on sickorettes!  Close your eyes and breath deeply....it feels wonderful and the clean air smells awesome!  It will come....

Keep the faith girl!  You ARE doing this!!!

Folks kept telling me to have patience, but the inner turmoil never seem to go away. I wasn't sure it would happen for me. I am on day 17 and have some moments and some days of relief and feel like for the first time that there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Do whatever you need to do so that you don't smoke and if you can find a way to do it and get the nicotene out of your system I think it works better. I have tried NRT but I think it kept me in turmoil, so this time I went without any type of nicotene in and worked on getting it out of my system. You will find a way that works for you just hang in there and we'll keep supporting you no matter what.

I Know one thing for sure and thats the people on this site will sure do thier best to make sure the both of us will give us the straight scoop, and thats a good feeling. We can do this and we are not alone.

It will decrease.  The less power you give the cravings the less they will invade your thoughts.

I slept a lot in the early stages.  I also allowed myself to heal and let my body adjust to not smoking.

Be kind to yourself and give yourself time to heal from this.  You didn't do this damage in 10 days - it will take more than that amount of time for the healing to take place.

I am 128 days quit and I still have memories that make me think about smoking - but it won't happen !

Thomas is right - plus - I kept reminding myself of how long I smoked and that naturally it would take a while to stop thinking about it. The good news - it did not really take that long at all - relative to how long I smoked! I see you smoked for 10 years....so keep that in mind - it will take a little time. But - it WILL get better!! Promise! Congrats on 10 days!

Day 10 for me. At 72 it is the best thing I have ever done for myself. With a light workout I can already feel my lungs healing. Good luck to all.
