ANSWER TO LAST WEEK'S TRIVIA QUESTION: IN-N-OUT BURGER
When Harry and Esther Snyder, the original owners of In-N-Out Burger, began using the two-way intercom in 1948, they revolutionized fast-food service by creating the world’s first drive-through-only restaurant. Drive-in restaurants had existed since at least Texas’ Pig Stand in 1921, but In-N-Out was the first known restaurant to offer neither indoor seating nor outdoor parking. In fact, the company was entirely drive-through-only while it expanded until cities began refusing to allow new restaurant locations due to traffic jams. The restaurants finally added seating. Through it all the company has remained family-owned, and is today run by Esther and Harry’s granddaughter, Lynsi.
