Daily Pledge, Bonfires and Quit Celebrations: Traditions born from the members
Happy March everyone and welcome to the Daily Pledge in the Celebrations & Events community where we can meet daily to take another person's hand and make our commitment stronger.
March is the first month of Spring! I don’t know about you, but spring (and fall) are my favorite times of the year. It certainly feels like those seasons are becoming shorter and shorter and winter and summer are getting longer and longer here in the Midwest.
It’s the best month for basketball (but worst for productivity)! Ready for this? It’s also the best month for vasectomies according to the Cleveland Clinic who claim the number of vasectomies surges 50% during the first week of March Madness! 🙂
March 6 is the Day of the Dude. Do you know the reference? It encourages people to honor The Big Lebowski by takin’er easy all day, man.
One of my favorites is Pi Day on March 14 which celebrates 3/14 with math jokes, pi-reciting competitions, and (of course) freshly baked pie. My math teacher friend has a competition with his students every year to recite as many digits of Pi as they can. The current record holder recited 234 digits of Pi. The winner gets to pie the teacher in the face! He puts up a You Tube video every year!
One of the worst things about March is daylight savings time, which happens on March 10 this year. We can thank Ben Franklin for this brilliant idea (cough cough).
Of course, St. Patrick’s Day is in March and living in Chicago, I am proud to say the Chicago River is turned green every year to celebrate this auspicious occasion. But St. Patrick’s day in 1973 (March 17) was huge for Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” (one of my favorites) where it hit the Billboard Top 200 chart at 95 and 14 years (yes, years) later, it finally left the top 200 for the first time, setting a still-unbroken world record.
I’ve babbled on enough about March. Let’s get to business. Are you ready? Let’s pledge!
