Are you talking osteoarthritis here or osteoporosis . Isn't there a difference ?

Thanks , lots of information .

Well we started out with osteoarthritis. Mine is part genetic. Some people have both. Others seem to have rheumatoid arthritis. I have inflammation and it’s a pain.

This article was from Osteoporosis: The Effects of Smoking on Bone Heath.

They are different.  Osteoporosis is a bone disease vs osteoarthritis is a form of arthritis.  You can have both.  Here's a good article that compares the two if you're interested.

Sorry you are in pain.  A good place to start is a healthy diet. I take a lot of vitamins.  We definitely need a good multi-vitamin.  You said you are taking a calcium supplement.  Magnesium is just as important as calcium for our bones.  Walking is wonderful for joint pain.  It lubricates our joints.  Feel better.  Also Vitamin D-3 is essential.

Thank you Barb. I am in pain but I am also blessed. I take vitamins too. Calcium 600 mg with D3 in it. A multivitamin for old timers now that I’m over 50 . Fish oil, then the rest are meds. I started changing my diet last year. Fruit and vegetables are my friends. My sister 3 hours from me has been a type 1 diabetic and we eat a lot of the same foods. We talk on the phone regularly. I told my husband last night that on Friday we will have fish. The day after we have fish when I awaken I always feel like I’m in less pain. I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to eat a lot more of it. I will read what you sent on the links. Thanks again!

Updating. I’ve had two more injections in my thumb. I still have pain. I think the PA may have hit a nerve. I have to make another appointment. I am however strengthening my right hand by using it a lot more.

Sorry that the injections didn't appear to help you.  Is the thumb the only place you have it?

(I reread this thread and sorry to say, I got off on a different track.  Sorry about that!)

Well, it’s actually the tendons in my that mb. The surgeon injected me last. He said that my tendons were knotted. I am to wait 30 days and if there is still pain then I go back. It’s been about 2 weeks. It is half better. Where he has injected is better. Where the PA the injected is still painful. I showed him and his first sentence was, I wouldn’t have injected there. I said, I thought it was wrong. He said, I didn’t say it was wrong. So I’m now wondering what he will do next.
