Let's Get Moving Part 3

Jump to solution

'The original idea was to "get moving" at least 4 times a week, staying accountable to each other.  Post your accomplishments in the comments. This is the original blog link if you would like to clarify the guidelines

Let's Get Moving Challenge - EX Community.   Any activity counts, as long as you get off your butt and get your heart pumping.  Who knows, maybe we'll lose a little weight or a couple of inches in the meantime.  I hope placing it in discussions this time will work better than a blog post where there were so many entries and becomes harder to locate.  Let's see if we can keep it on the board often and easy to find.

I believe we got sidetracked when I suggested doing other challenges and those challenges were not conducive to everyone. My fault. Lesson learned.  So I am hoping we can get back to doing what "you" do instead of a specific routine.  Got it?.   In the previous post, there were a lot of comments to go through to come up with this list of who participated.  Hopefully, it will catch on again.  Of course, sometimes we got off topic which can happen.  This post really kept me motivated and we had a lot of fun while learning a lot from each other with over 2519 comments on the first blog and 1072 Let's Get Moving 2018 - EX Community  on second blog comments. So let's Get Moving Part 3!

Thanks Jackie! I did my hour’s worth of water aerobics today - which I do 3 days a week. I also do a 2 mile walk on 3 other dayside week. (I am building back to 3 miles which is what I did before my surgery....waiting for the weather to cool off a bit!)

great reminder!

Thanks guys. You all keep me moving.  You are such great inspirations.  Kathy, I was in awe when we were playing frisbee in Virginia Beach.  I thought (now how stupid is THIS an idea (mine!) for a game for someone who not only doesn't feeling particularly competent at playing it, but just had a major chest (lung)  operation!  And I kept thinking, suppose she gets hit in the chest??  You were undaunted and all-willing.  And I was in awe.  When I grow up, I wanna be just like you.

There are inspirations all over the place here.  And my heart just opens wide up to you guys.  Seriously.  When I have bad days, the thought of your bad days and how you deal with them and overcome them just makes me try all that much harder.  I'm tough and I'm stubborn, otherwise I'd simply disintegrate in more ways than one.  You all set the bar for CAN DO!  ♥

Thanks JACKIE1-25-15‌, please give about 1 more month and I promise I'll start to walk again; moving around the house and at work, does not give me an idea if the knee is better after the cortisone shot; I know it hurts less spontaneously, but don't know yet how it'll do in the "long run".  What I can say is that we are in full monsoon season, i took the puppy to the vet today (again) and I carried him from the car inside and on the way back, worried he could burn his little paws on the asphalt.  It is hot, and humid

Those cortisone shots can be magic for some people. I hope it works well for you!

Thank you Donna, it did in the past, this year I had one in the knee, another in the lower back.  Not sure if it will allow me to walk (not even much, 1 mile will already help a lot) as I used to, merely 2 years ago...  And BTW, walking on the beach as VB did not help the knee pain, it made it worse   How frustrating it is when denied one of the most beautiful activity in life!  On the other had, I know you had surgery on both your knees and probably not able to do that either, and there are other of us limited by more serious health challenges, so I'd say, we are lucky to move as we are!

I only decided to have a knee replaced due to what you said - how sad it is to be denied such a simple pleasure. My doctor at the time (2010) said, "Life it too short to walk from bench to bench." Knee replacement isn't for everyone, but it was the right thing for me in order to make me able to move again.

Having said all that, I don't have a back issue, so can't relate. I've had minor back problems here and there over the years, but not like you're describing.

Aging is fun, isn't it?

I hope you were able to get moving today. For me, the day has been long. I was awakened early. Ugh!.  I started my #2 challenge for the week with 20 mins on the treadmill. I tried to jump rope... body said NOPE.  Was able to last 3 minutes with the hola hoop before it fell off my waist. By early evening I only had 6,900 steps for the day.  My goal is 10K.  I had difficulty decidING whether to walk in the mall or the park.  The mall won.  I finished the day with 10K steps a  total of 64 minutes of exercise 4.7miles walked, 1900 cal burned.  I am tired, ready to shower and go to bed and it is only 8:30.This use to be a piece of cake for me.  I am aging. LET'S GET MOVING

So many things go in cycles.  I stumbled across this blog under recommended content.  I guess the ugh word triggered it. . Ugh! Sometimes it can be hard to "keep it moving".
