Welcome to our site.  There is so much help here to quit smoking.  You are right "life is not easy."  Do this for you.  It makes life so much better.  So many of us who came here to quit can attest to that.  You can do this.

If you let quitting smoking add to existing anxiety, that's what will happen.

So how to separate quitting smoking from existing anxiety is the key.

Make quitting a game.

Tell yourself to wait a little longer when you want to smoke. Don't deny. Don't count but say that every time.

I don't know if you are housebound or buy by the carton, etc so how you will gauge you progress?

I just realized I had cash in my wallet and wasn't going to the store for cigarettes as often.

"I'm going to wait a little longer." say it every time you want to smoke. It's a simple reminder that will get you on track to quit.

You CAN do this, smoking has never done anything FOR you, it has likely done a lot TO you and none of it is good.  No crave ever killed anyone and they do pass.  Smoking contributes to anxiety and depression, the addiction is LYING to you.  Education about nicotine addiction, support from others who have been where you are, and your own commitment will get you through everything.  Quitting is a journey, it is not an event...it is one day at a time and oftentimes, it has to be one emotion at a time.  All the time we smoked, we stuffed our feelings down and when we quit, they come jumping out and they seem really intense when, in fact, they are normal.  It is normal to feel sad or angry or lonely or stressed...dealing with our feelings without smoking is what we have to learn to do.  People who never smoked or abused any other substances grew much stronger emotionally than we ever did.

Stay close to the site, read blogs, reach out to others, when you ask for advice, listen to what is offered.  I promise you that it will get easier if you stick with it.

Welcome to EX,

Ellen
