Driving Trigger Help!

My quit date is set for February 1. I'm preparing by trying to break some of my strongest smoking habits and my first one is...driving. I'm finding it really hard to even make a 10 minute drive without smoking. What are some things that you all do to fight the cravings while driving?

A crave cannot make you smoke. Every time you refuse to smoke in your car you will be building your recovery. It is said here by Dale and others, to keep repeating the phrase, I don't do that anymore. A sip of water, a licorice stick can help a little, but also keep reinforcing your decision to quit--that you are not helpless or powerless, you do have the power to accept your decision to quit and carry it out.

Remember that no crave ever killed anyone but no one can say that about smoking.  Craves don't last long and each time you get through one without smoking...you get stronger.

I made a commitment not to smoke in my car. That meant I had wait until I got to my destination to smoke.

It sounds simple but it worked. Making a commitment to wait helped me cut down on number of cigarettes I smoked.

Put on some of your favorite music and sing along at the top of your lungs!    That helped me, along with committing not to smoke in my car like stAn3‌  mentioned.  Have a bottle of water or juice at the ready to drown the crave.  Also perhaps a twizzler or hard candy to suck on and keep the mouth busy.  Not to be used (hard candy) at the same time as singing

I did these things too. I kept mints and water always. It passes.  It’s a memory habit. You can do it too

Driving is mybiggest trigger so knowing this before I quit was to buy cinnamon sticks and toothpicks. I had to buy air freshner for my car so I dont smell the stale smoke. Ive only quit 5 days ago and so far  these are working for me
