COPD: LLAP

When I was first daignosed with COPD I was so shocked that I quit smoking 6 days later. That was March 2010.

Since then I have made it my mission to understand and self-manage my illness.

I was in the hospital last week with pneumonia and saw a lot of Respiratory Therapists. They were very surprised that I understood COPD and treatment options and that I wanted to be a part of my care management.

So I tap into a lot of sources for COPD education and often share them with folks here because an estimated 50% of our Community have COPD - half have been diagnosed and the other half don't even know it.

Here are 2 videos that can help you understand about COPD and maybe motivate you to get checked out.

The interest and knowledge you show us here Thomas, motivates me to ask more questions and do more research and make sure that the Doc is doing appropriate testing in a timely manner. I am due to get my CT scan on the 9th and if there is someone there that can read it, my appointment will follow. Thanks for the links! I am so glad you are here for us! ~Terrie~

What I don't understand is why your health care team was surprised that you were knowledgeable of your disease....the dr. Is only as good as the patient.  Thanks for sharing and continuing your crusade with this addiction and COPD.

You are such an amazing educator, I am sure that those respiratory therapists LOVED you.  Thank you so much for continuing to help us figure out where we are in our disease (if we have it) and how to best manage it.  It is really important to making progress.

So hope that you are continuing to feel better.

And, you started a life-line of knowledge about COPD that helps more people than you know. I have shared your links with co-workers, friends and family. I believe many people here have done the same.

I bestow you with the the title of Master of Learn, Live, Breath.

Thomas, LLB
