Within the last month I was diagnosed with COPD
As I was sitting in the waiting room of the pulminologist at the VA Hospital in Cincinnati, I looked around and half of people there were on oxygen, some were wheezing, some were coughing, some were using inhalers. I was angry at everything in the world and tried to think about how I got there.
I smoked for over 50 years and I quit on Oct 15, 2012. On or about Sep 30, 2013 I relapsed for one day and restarted my quit Aug 1, 2013 and have maintained that quit ever since. Since that time I have been in the Hospital a couple of times for smoking related issues....vascular....heart...cartoid...minor surgeries and tests
I thought I was really getting a hold on everything. I even had a CT Scan for lung cancer that came back clean. When one day I couldnt breath. There is no feeling quite like when you cant breath. I was getting very congested and I went into coughing fits that I couldnt stop.
This went on for a few days and then I went to the Doctor and he cleared it up and set me up for testing and to see a pulminologist.
So they told me I had COPD....I said "its probably a mild case since most of the time I feel pretty good:]" Pointing at the test results he said "No its more than that"
So I was pretty upset...wouldnt talk to anyone...I know it dosent make sense, but I was even mad at the Doctor for giving me this news.
I would come on here and read Thomas' posts on COPD.....Anyway thats my story with COPD
I am not sur how to act or what to do
