So, I'm sad to say I relapsed shortly before my birthday this year with over 200 days of smoberiety, but I am happy to say that I got back on the wagon for my 33rd birthday yesterday and this time I have decided to face the ultimate challenge - COLD TURKEY.

I hate the sticky residue the patches leave, I hate the way my body reacts to the drugs and I seriously would rather suffer for 3 or so days than deal with the side effects of the NRT.

I had already let my friends know that after my birthday I was going to have to cut down on my social outings, so this is the perfect time to set myself up with the least amount of temptation. I'm studying to be a personal trainer so the next few months I will be hitting the books and staying strong on this committment that not only affects my health but my career.

I've been reading Allen Carr's book again and of course I am back here, where so many people went above and beyond to support me on my last quit. Can't wait to get to know all the new people and get back to chatting with my old EX-pals!

This is actually my third wind on becomeanex.org - in February 2013 I quit for over 6 months before relapsing and realizing I was going to have to start all over again. And then that happened again. So, I'm back here to get at it. I've tried quitting so many times now it's not even that funny. I had basically been smoking since I was 13 (so, 25 years now) and was tired of letting something so stupid and expensive run my life to the extent that it did. In general, I am a pretty healthy person. I work out regularly, I eat well most of the time..it just seemed ridiculous to keep subjecting myself to being stinky and ultimately sick. I know cigarettes don't actually bring anything positive to my life, it was just hard to think of a future that didn't include the habits I had built around them. But now that I am 38 I am determined to live a healthy, well-balanced life and take more time to enjoy my home, my friends, my 2 cats, my city and a life free of cigarettes.
