I am new to the forum and already have found it to be a place of solace and sound advice. I have smoked for forty+ years (I can no longer remember when I actually started, although I suspect pretty soon after birth :=).

I am on Day Five of my quit and Hershey Kisses have become my best friend. I am facing major artery bypass surgery the end of the month, so I figure I will lose whatever weight I gain from that trauma! I generally eat a very healthy diet, so I guess these indulgences won't kill me in the short term!

I am having a really tough time of this, but am steely in my resolve. Now that I know how difficult it is, I don't think I will be able to talk myself into doing this ever again. Failure is not an option!

Thank you all for your support and all the wonderful advice you have given me so far. I hope to return the favor when I am quit for the 130 days (thanks for that benchmark, Dale!)

I smoked until a vascular surgeon informed me of the damage I had done to myself by doing so. I quit 11 years ago, and I can swim laps virtually FOREVER now, walk most other days 40 minutes to an hour and a half. What a difference quitting has made in my life! I strive to help others find this wonderful freedom from addiction, too.
