Hi, everyone! I'm just stopping by to say hello. I have absolutely no words of wisdom today, because I'm simply enjoying the day!
I'm laying over in San Diego for 27 hours and the weather is perfect. The sun is out, the breeze is blowing off the water and I have no plans or deadlines.
I'm standing on my balcony on the 14th floor, overlooking the pool below. I can see the bay just a few blocks away. The water sparkles and sailboats are out in force.
Honestly, it's just a lovely day and I don't have to get back on an airplane until 9pm tonight...
I think I'm enjoying this so very much because I can remember a time when I felt like my balconies at this hotel had a very different purpose.
I would drag the desk chair out on to the balcony. I would use an upside-down waste basket as an end table. I would fill a paper coffee cup with an inch of water as my substitute for an ashtray. And I would spend more time out on my balcony smoking and reading than I actually spent in the room! Just before leaving the room at the end of my layover, my last act would be to stand over the toilet, flushing repeatedly until all those smelly butts from the paper cup were finally gone.
What a stupid way to waste my life in beautiful San Diego!
Not anymore! I'm headed out in few minutes to walk down to Little Italy, where I'll have a nice meal at an outdoor table and, perhaps, stop at Extraordinary Desserts for a slice of Alton Brown's favorite: Dulce de Leche Cake. (I saw that on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Food Network...gotta stop watching that! Because, either fortunately or UNfortunately, I have just waaaaay to many opportunities to get my hands on these foods on all my layovers in different cities! Such a first-world problem, right?)
Have a great smoke-free day! I love you guys!
xxxooo, Sky
