I live with another smoker. How can I quit successfully and stay focused around her ?
No doubt, that is a tough situation. But others here have done it. Use the search tool with key words "living with a smoker", for example.
Hi and Welcome to Ex’s EricaM77
First, so happy you are making the step to quit smoking...secondly, ask all who smoke, to smoke outside and not around you and to not leave any smoking paraphernalia around the house...most people, will help and support someone quitting smoking. It is your Quit...no one else’s...it has got to be your number one priority. Go and read at My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX and figure out your quit date. Prepare for that day like no other...also, read everything you can about quitting and smoking...if you go to the magnifier in the right hand corner and look for blogs about other’s who quit smoker with another smoker in the house...This is so doable...You can do it...just takes time ... we are in this journey together. Lastly, be sure to keep close to the support site to encourage other quitters and to get any and all help. Now get working...~ Colleen 226 DOF
100 Things to do instead of smoking!
Agreed, it's not easy, but other's have done it. Ask them to smoke outside and DO NOT leave their cigarettes laying about. It's too tempting and it only takes one. Remember it's you're quit, no one else's.
You have a really good question. One that has been asked many times. In fact, one of our Elders Mandolinrain wrote a blog on it that I bookmarked and frequently use for reference. There are also many other blogs on the subject. Go to the top right corner and use the magnifying glass and type in a few keywords and read some of the blogs and comments to help get you an answer. Quitting is hard work but it is doable even living with a smoker. Start here.Dealing with mate /friends that still smoke and one by Dr. Hayes Quitting when you live with smokers
Yes, living with a smoker does make it harder to quit, but I have also seen people use that situation as their main motivation. You can do this. And for the record, I live with someone who wears dresses, and I stopped wearing dresses. And I live with someone who wears make up, and I stopped wearing makeup.
Am still working on the high heeled pumps........
That's a great question. Living with a smoker. I am celebrating my 10th year of being smoke-free today 7/17/19. Yay! I live with a smoker who never thought I would be able to accomplish this. I think even today he feels that somehow, someway am going to return to smoking. A smoker in your house. You have to lay down the ground rules. No smoking in the house or in your car. Good luck you are one the way to a wonderful smoke-free life. I'm proof of it along with so many others who have come to this site.

I agree with the suggestions made. There HAVE to be ground rules, no smoking inside of your home, no leaving cigarettes laying around in full view, ask for encouragement and support. Explain that you HAVE to make your quit a number one priority and that you need help to do that. Come here every morning and every evening, read blogs, write blogs, exercise, suck on Sour Patch Kids (worked for me), drink tons of water to flush your system. Eat frozen fruit, blueberries, cherries, grapes.....you CAN do this and we are all here to help you in any way that we can.
Welcome to EX,
I feel for you. That is a tough situation. But one you can beat because you want to quit smoking. I have avoided all smokers I know and did not even tell them I was quitting because I knew they were not going to be supportive. Except here. Here we can support each other. I quit this week and caved a couple times. It is this very solo pursuit even in the most ideal of situations. If that helps at all! I know you can do this. You are brave! You know what you want! And you are not going to let living with another smoker stand in your way to get where you want to be! Blog a lot! And ask the person if they can smoke outside or away from your living quarters while you are quitting. You got this!!!! Do not let this one scenario stop you from what you want to achieve.
