Give and get support around quitting
I'm a smoker for 40 years and really need to quit for health reasons. I sure could use a friend for support and help. My quit date is March 4th and am getting excited but nervous. If anyone can give me some insight and advice I sure will appricate it. Have a good day everone.
Hello Mike and welcome to EX!
The MOST important thing you can do is educate yourself about the addiction by reading, reading and more reading! PREPARE to quit by following the steps on the EX homepage (a couple days is ok!) and stay around here to learn about how to get through the first week or so...A quit PLAN as it were...so glad you are here! xo

It is ALWAYS a choice and that choice is ALWAYS yours!!!! xo
Hi Mike! Why be scared? You're not going into a pit of fire! You're doing something WONDERFUL! I agree with everyone here - please read the Allan Carr book. It's not a real long book - only 111 short pages and I truly believe they will change your life.Whyquit.com is also tremendous.
Remember we have all been where you are and we all still struggle which is why we are here.
GO MIKE GO!
Hi Mike, Welcome to the site. You received very good advice from all above. Read as much as you can on nicotine addiction, come here blog, take lots of deep breaths, drink plenty of water and laugh at everything. Always protect your quit, like it was a newborn baby, it is that important.
you can do it Mike - - read as much as you can, find supports, and think positive! We ar doing this together and you can succeed! Good Luck - I know you can I know you can 🙂
Welcome Mike congrats on your quit , we are here for you, great advice here on the site, i am a 45 year smoker, you can suceed , i am on 58 dats now, this is not my first quit but my last.
Mike - Well, it appears you have already met some of the other "40 years" (and more) smokers here! I am also one of those "old timers"! But, I came here, did the reading above (mainly the Carr book and http://quitsmokingonline.com/) and I quit! That was almost 1000 days ago (will be three years in June!!). So, as you can see, you can do this! That is the main reason I was able to do it - I came here and saw others, like me - people who had smoked all of their adult life - and they had done what I thought was impossible! They had quit! Wow! So, I knew I could too! Best thing I have ever done! Stay!! Read!!
