Give and get support around quitting

Las Vegas

My quit date is set for the 9th of April. Its my birthday and I've already made plans to go to Vegas. Not sure if I should change my quit date until after. It will be difficult to not smoke in the casino and I plan on having a few drinks. Should I rise to the challenge and keep my quit date? I could not drink alcohol, that won't be a problem. Not sure what to do. Help. My husband also smokes and he's agreed not to smoke at home or around me when I quit, but he will smoke when we go to Vegas. Any suggestions?

Thanks Jamie. That was helpful, because that's what I was thinking. I've cut down a lot using the seperation excersizes. I have tried quitting in the past, but this is goin to be permanent. I'm commited. So I don't really want to make this harder than it has to be. Looks like we're in the same boat with our husbands. He says the price of cigarettes are so high, that it would be in his best interest to quit too. So maybe, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again. Elisa

Hi, I know the "right" thing is to say keep to your quit date but to be honest withyou if youre anything like me with your smokes quitting is going to be hard enough. If I was planning on going to Vegas I think I would try to quit after I got back. Will seem extra hard while youre having fun & husband is smoking, you know? Do what you think you can do I just would be setting myslef up for disappointment. There is nothing unusual going on for me April 1st just going to be home but I still think its going to be really hard. My husband has agreed to smoke outside too. I wish I could get him to do it with me would be more support.
Good Luck & let me know how it goes!

Elisa,

I quit on my way home from Vegas on March 11th at 10:30 am (right when I got off of the airport shuttle). I am on day 12 and it is getting better...still tough, but easier than yesterday, and the day before.

I could not have done it before we went to Vegas, no way! After being there with all of the late night acitivities, drinks, and smoking more than than you normally do, it was almost refreshing & rejuvinating to toss my pack in the garbage at the airport.

You can do it! If I can go for 12 days thus far after smoking for almost 30 years, you can do it!

Thanks for the suggestions. Think I'll change my date to April 13.
