First cravings in several weeks

Jump to solution

Three days ago, I had 2 fusions in my left ankle along with a heel shift surgery.  Pain has been horrendous and I am on major pain killers, I am bed ridden. Can’t walk or put any weight on foot for 4 weeks and I am bored already !  Along with being bored came the cravings and so far I have done well not giving in but they are definitely there.  I hit 50 days smoke free yesterday!  Any thoughts or ideas on how best to deal with the cravings ?

Hi @Deb341 . I just came cross this post you wrote two hours ago and I see that you have not yet received  response. Being Saturday, most folks re probably out running errands or doing house cleaning and laundry. Sorry it's been awhile since you posted. Hope you have not caved and sent someone out for a pack!

A few quick ideas include:

1. Bite into a lemon, peel and all! (honest!)

2. Cut a straw into cigarette size and "smoke it"

3. Chew on gum, gummy candies

4. Go onto the site and read , read, read and respond.

5. Access the EX's relapse prevention forum for great ideas:

I have gone into the archives for some other suggestions. I do realize that being bedbound would keep you from doing some of the suggested activities but hopefully some of these suggestions would work.

BTW I am praying for you and sending hugs!

Hope your pain subsides soon!

You are to be commended!  Bed bound and smokefree.  Way to go.  I think your dr. will be impressed.  Way to go.

Someone on this site has a list of 100 things to do instead of smoking, so maybe someone will publish it.  You are being challenged, but smoking is NOT the answer.

@Deb341 Sorry you're in so much pain.  There are things to do when you can't move.  It's really what interests you.   Listen to music, watch a movie, call a friend, crafts if you're inclined, read a book, crossword puzzles, etc.  What tools did you use to quit?   Fall back on them if you can.

I found playing video games really helpful.   You're mind gets lost in the game and time passes quicky.

Hang in there -- do your deep breathing exercises and stay close to the site right now.  We're here too to help you get through this difficult time.

And, a super congrats on 50 days.  That's fabulous.

Hope you're feeling better soon.
