How long do most people stay on patches?

I've been smoke-free for 4 days using the 21 mg patch. The state quitline recommended to stay on that dose for 4 weeks, then do 14 mg for 2 weeks, then 7 mg for 2 weeks. Is this the typical advice? I'm having almost no physical withdrawal symptoms on the patch. And I become an emotional, insane wreck going cold turkey. I have the gum also but have only used 3 pieces so far. Thanks!

@SaraCatkins I would recommend following the directions.  Some people quit to soon.  Keep up the good work.

NRT should be used for an 8-12 week period but it's best to check your individual product for guidance. Some long-term NRT users experience mild withdrawal symptoms when they stop using it. NRT is safe to use, even long-term but consider it is an aid to help you to quit smoking. Wishing you much success.
