Hi Thomas, I was diagnosed with early stages of emphysema back in September. Being fortunate is two fold. I did not have any symptoms with breathing before the diagnoses, and if it wasn't for a chest cat scan I would not have been diagnosed. The emphysema did not show up on a standard X-ray. To answer your question, I have not noticed any differance with my breathing since I stopped smoking except for the fact I can now hold my breath longer. I can also smell much better. I am glad I was diagnosed early or I would probably still be smoking! Quitting smoking is the absolute best thing you could ever do for your COPD. Also be sure to take any medication the Dr. prescribes for you. Congradulations on your quit!
