It would only be a "container" in which Discussions/Questions/Blogs/Documents/etc would be housed. A daily "Discussion" would need to be created there.
Others have mentioned they want the site to be centralized. We've worked to ensure that was the case. Creating a sub-space would create more de-centralization. What would prevent lots of "How do I do this" discussions from popping up?

EX Community Manager
Hi Mark. In other communities I'm in, the spaces (aka forums) have Moderators that handle combining similar questions into one thread, etc. Moderators are sort of like unpaid staff for busy Administrators like you. We help keep things tidy.
As much as I would love that there isn't any moderation options for
volunteers and there isn't a merge option. Merging is always a tricky
thing, it's rarely clear cut unless there are lots of moderators and
they're really quick.
I actually have run several online communities with volunteer moderators.
I'm a huge advocate so long as there is a proper role established to give
the people the right amount of control. Without the proper roles, it just
causes problems. At this time there just isn't enough granularity to make
it possible. As soon as there is I'll be looking for you
