I think the idea is to cut back to 1 an hour, this way it is easier to quit. The last time I quit, I was down to 8 smokes a day, so my urge was less, so the lower you cut back to, the easier it is for your quit day. I also took a walk when I was craving, but we just got 10 inches od snow and I have a bad back, so this time I will have to find something new to try>
