The Daily Pledge - October 2019

pastedImage_1.pngpastedImage_2.png

Happy October everyone and welcome to the Daily Pledge in the Celebrations & Events  community where we can meet daily to take another person's hand and make our commitment stronger.

It is a very well-known fact that the month of October is filled with a lot of festivals all over the world.

The name October has been derived from the Latin “Octo” which means eight because October was the eighth month of the year, according to the Roman calendar. It was called Winterfylleth, meaning the “fullness of winter”, by the Anglo-Saxons because it had the first full moon of the winter season.

Columbus Day, the second Monday of October, is a national holiday and celebrated in many countries of the Americas as the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in America in 1492.

Halloween, the spookiest night of the year, is celebrated in a number of countries on October 31, the eve of All Hallows’ Day. It is believed that on this day the spirits can wander the earth freely and children can hop for treats in the neighborhood in the guise of various costumes. Interestingly, in terms of expenditure, Halloween is second only to the Christmas.

Also, in the U.S.A., October not only marks the onset of the festive season but is also celebrated as the National Pizza Month, Popcorn Month, Pork Month and Sausage Month.

Many famous personalities were born in October, including Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869. He was one of the famous leaders of the Indian Independence.

Bill Gates, the world’s richest man from 1995 to 2017, was born on October 28, 1955. He is not only the founder of Microsoft but also an investor, author and philanthropist. He built Microsoft, the world’s largest PC software company. Bill Gates is a proponent of higher taxes, particularly for the rich.

It is difficult for me to come forth, but I fell down last night. After

117 days smokefree, I flat out let a situation at work to make me very

angry.

I know enough to usually be able to guard myself from such anger, but it

just plain got the best of me. So, my "no matter what" got assaulted, and

like many addicts, I let myself smoke AT the problem. I smoked about 4-5

cigarettes, then gave them to my wife to throw away. That was last night

about 7 p.m., so my 1st 24hours will turn over at 7 pm tonight.

It is so hard to let go of my 117 days. I could use some love and input

today from my family here at Become an EX. I'm sure I will be able to

derive something learned about this, but right now I'm still a bit

emotionally shook up, and quite disappointed in myself.

Blessings,

Michael

Sorry to hear that.   We always say reach out before you smoke.  Give us a chance to help you get through it.  I know it worked for me.

You can do this. Good job putting it down again and giving the goods to

someone to get rid of. I am putting it down but I keep picking it up so I

gave my bag of vape stuff to my friend today to throw out but am still

holding on to my last one that I plan to get rid of today. You inspire me

to stop, I just have to let go. Be good to yourself today you are worth it.

Michael Mavihoja‌. I  pledge not to smoke today and offer may hand to you to continue pledge again. Congratulations on having the courage to admit you are beginning at day 1.  We're all here for you and so happy you're beginning again. On the note of allowing work to anger you...I've been in that position before, allowing my job, people places, things and situations get the best of me.  These experiences have allowed me to be get stronger and take a look at what's really important to me.  That's why, for me...this quit has involved practicing my reactions to those things, without picking up a smoke, smoking at them..ultimately hurting me... Practice. Practice. Practice.  I'm happy you came with us so quickly.

Anger is one of my biggest triggers and one of the reasons I sought out a group of quitters.  I needed someplace that I can rant instead of going to buy that pack. Do not beat yourself up. It happens, remember how you felt after you had that cig and then move on.  Do not let a moment define the rest of your quit. Quitting is still quitting even with a relapse.
