Do you remember your first 3 days?

Do you remember your first 3 days of quitting smoking? What did you do for yourself? And what helped you through the process as nicotine left your system? Are there any tips or tricks to stay quit?

I was so sick that I spent all of my time just trying to breathe, I drank GALLONS of orange juice, used three inhalers, a nebulizer, a warm steam vaporizer, I did postural drainage, and I took two antibiotics and large doses of prednisone.  I was so sick that I KNEW I could never smoke again and I knew that I would never want to.  It's been six years now and I live with the damage but I am alive.

I remember my first three days oh so well. I slept. A LOT. I also drank tons of water and did a lot of deep breathing. And I played Wordscapes on my phone like a fiend. LOL

Almost all of what I did then I do today. For me it is not about nicotine withdrawal so much as it is about nicotine dependency. Once the nicotine is out of your system, our brains realize something is really missing--no kidding. It's not just mental, one has been in an addiction for years and the brain remembers. So just not smoking (walking the walk) and doing anything and everything I could think of was what I did. I had agreed to try my best--meaning--I could not let myself off the hook no matter how I felt.

I quit cold turkey, not much support. I came to Ex 2 yrs and 10 months in. Now over six years since I quit, I know without question that I do not ever have to smoke again. Yes I remember the first three days because I won when I felt least able to.

Beautiful initial days...

Walked few miles more than normal, and faster pace in the morning walk sessions.

Went through classic yoga sessions, for most of the days during quit,

googled out and watched good videos, why quit is important,

and finally kept remembering,

I am here to quit, and I can, I will.

All the best !

2267 days free from smoking now...

I choose NEF (Never Ever Forget)! So yes, I remember like it was yesterday! I slept very little and had the cleanest property on the block. Doing little chores to use up the hours I spent smoking gave me purpose and dopamine. There;s that word again!

I don't remember the first three days much. I was so sick I wanted to throw up and sleeping, repeat process.  Everyone is different so take any advice you can from our wonderful elders and try whatever works EXCEPT lighting up.  It will only make you feel worse.

Thanks so much for reaching out. It’s been tough these last few days, not gonna lie. But I’m fighting to keep with the quit because I don’t want to be smoker any more. I will definitely try the deep breathing!

I appreciate you!

Hi! Hope the deep breathing is helping you. Sometimes I will hold two fingers together at my lips like I was smoking a cigarette while I do the breathing. Probably sounds silly but just that small hand-to-mouth exercise helps even more. Stick with your quit and stay connected! Post if you need some encouragement~ Day 7/ One week is just around the corner!!
