The Battle with The NicoDemon

.I read a blog this morning that was amazing....it was about Mindset. I had been smoking since I was 13-14 for a total of about 30+ years. I smoked about 1 1/2 packs/day. My place of employ announced they were going smoke-free on the entire campus so I started up the Chantix a month ago and have been smoke-free for 3 weeks. I have quit before but only for a couple months. I still fight the desires to smoke daily...i find it a terrible battle EVER SINGLE DAY. I don’t think it is anything more than my mindset is not in the right place. I know I need to quit smoking regardless,  but my mind keeps romancing the thoughts of WHY smoking COULD help me....All rediculous reasons of course, but the mind is an amazing and powerful tool. I believe that once I get to the mentation of why not to smoke, as opposed to the reason I did actually quit (which was because my workplace is going smoke free), I will be more comfortable with this quit, and the quit will then be so much easier....that is the battle in my mind  and yes, it SUCKS, and yes it’s Hard. I know I can do this, but then that NicoDemon is constantly in my ear telling me reasons why I can smoke and how to get around the issue with no smoking at work...uggggggg. It all goes back to what Marilyn had said....MINDSET....but for me, my mindset is not quite there yet and I believe 100% that is the reason I am still battling this every single day, is because I am doing this quit for my Job and NOT for myself

Welcome to the Ex and congrats on your 3 week smoke free.  We're you able to educate yourself about nicotine addiction and create a quit plan before you quit?   If not, you can still do that.  My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX  Part of your quit plan  is your personal reasons to quit.   Understanding this addiction has made such a difference for me.   I don't think any of us like the idea that someone tells us we have to quit, so try to think of  your workplace as doing you a big favor.   Even though you couldn't smoke at work, you took it to the next step and committed to quitting.  .   Three weeks smoke free is amazing.  You're well on your way to a successful journey.  If you need help, reach out.  We're here for you.

I think you are right.  You are doing it for your job and not yourself.  More of a demand type of thing.  When we as humans are forced to do things we resist.  Only you can change your mind. Positive self-talk is a good start. I have included a few blogs that touch on the subject.  Have another Great day of Freedom.

Reality check might help you. Record yourself talking about how much you like smoking, love it, what it does for you. Avoid talkiing about how you ought to quit. In a day or so, watch yourself on full screen or notebook device. After you have done this, record yourself again, and again talk about how much you love smoking--what it does for you. Wait a few days, then watch.

After this, watch people smoking. Try to just watch, no judgement good or bad, just watch.

Reflect on the business of loving smoking. What else do you love that you embibe in every 20 minutes to an hour. Reach deep, keep reflecting.

Quitting Cigarettes Journal My story

Quitters start their quit as smokers. What an irony, because somewhere amongst the addict behavior are a few sprouts of belief that one can really quit. And it is true--might be bumpy to start, but eventually smobriety grows on quitters.

If you video yourself talking about  what smoking means to you, why you like it--and then watch the next day, you might see yourself and your thinking from a more objective perspective.

HI and Welcome to Ex’s...mdkrn2001

Glad you made the decision to quit smoking...Congratulations on 3 weeks of freedom...it does take longer to feel better in our quit skins...think about all the chemicals we had been putting in our bodies...now when we are quit...it takes time for our bodies to heal...but everyday...it is about a commitment to choose not to smoke...as one blog said here at Ex’s...”it is simple, but complicated”...You are doing it...keep it going...and keep close to the support site...~Colleen 272  DOF
