Give and get support around quitting
Below you will find a list. This list is like no other list. It is compiled from what my Elders taught me. It is the wisdom they gave that I used and continue to use and try to share. You are welcome to take any of these and use them at anytime. They work. I live and believe in them. If any one is too hard you can just scroll down and use an easier one. Take what you can use and scroll pass the rest. Quitting is serious.
1) Do your work and you can have a much better life than you can imagine. You will get over cigarettes!!!!!! It just takes time!
2) Quitting smoking is not about hoping it happens, it's about deciding and doing it. Honoring a choice can be simple. Don't make things too complicated by letting in a bunch of outside factors. "But this...But that..............." NO! These are just excuses. You CAN do this!
3) Nothing will do it for you except a decision and your willingness. As we get older it becomes "I can't do that anymore. Keep them away from your face!
4) You educate yourself, find a new way of thinking about quitting. You remain willing to deal with any physical and emotional changes that may happen. Seek support and support others.
5) There will always be good days and bad days and there will always be choices about how we deal with them.
6) Education is the key to a successful quit
7) We are not immune and can't let up our guard -even for one moment-it can and does happen-but it's still a choice.
😎 I will not smoke for today and that is how we become nonsmokers, one day at a time. Take care of you first. NOPE counts for No in some cases
9) Each time you do something as a nonsmoker that you have never done before you just get stronger "When nothing is certain - EVERYTHING is possible!" And depending upon how you view that statement, the possibilities for good things happening are limitless. –
10) Simply not an option for us anymore..... I have grown a backbone from my quit so far it's working. –
11) Keep that quit rolling strong!!!
12) Quitting smoking is absolutely “doable” and remaining quit is also absolutely “doable” and absolutely vital to our quality of living. We never ever want to go backwards
13) Keep on keepin’ on my friend,
14) You do whatever it takes to protect your quit! -
15) "Life is always going to happen; it's how you respond to it that is important." Choices! - As addicts, we must remain ever vigilant....but it is oh so worth the small challenges, and they get smaller and smaller as time passes.
16) Accept the fact you are now an ex-smoker and cigs are not your friend and you can live a normal life without burning one every hour.
17) Send positive messages of encouragement to others will help you stay quit.
18) You educate yourself, find a new way of thinking about quitting. You remain willing to deal with any physical and emotional changes that may happen. Seek support and support others.
19) I am an addict. If I smoke even a drag I will open myself up to being back to a pack a day. I must guard my quit. One way I do this is to come here every day, make my pledge and read blog listen. This is how I've done it for all these days.....make a promise and KEEP IT!
20) May I make an OUTLANDISH suggestion.....enjoy the ride; THE JOURNEY IS THE REWARD.
21) Nothing, nothing makes you smoke, except you, you choose, choose wisely. I've come to realize this is an ongoing journey and when we lift up others we lift up ourselves.
22) The journey never ends it continues
23) We must stay committed and always be on guard in our quits.
24) Knowledge is POWER!
25) “Recovery is one nicotine addict helping another nicotine addict, no matter where you are in your quit”. You have to give it away in order to keep it.
26) There will be temptations but you just have to blow them off - it only gets better! As long as you are blowing steam and not cigarettes that’s okay.
Now I will add;
27) Stay close, be mindful of what is going on with you HALT, Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired...................
28) This one is mine: Protect your quit. Do not use smoking as an option, no matter what is going on in your life NOPE. Never give up or give in. A quit is a terrible thing to lose.1140 DOF

Hi Jakie, I am new here as I just got signed up last night. I love what you have to say, and I especially like the saying: You do whatever it takes to protect your quit! My name is Cricket and I am 1 month, 9 hours and 34 minutes smokefree! It has been a hard month and I wasn't "ready" when I quit! I just knew the best opportunity in life for success was NOW! I spent 5 weeks reducing from 2 packs a, day down to 1 pack, and the plan was to get down to 10 before I quit. But I quit on February 10th. I smoked two cigarettes that morning, threw my ashtrays and lighters in the trash, put on a patch and started praying! I still could not SEE myself as a nonsmoker, but minute by minute hour by hour day by day I'm quitting tobacco I have not had a single Puff. I smoked 2 packs for 37 years, it is no wonder it is difficult to envision, when that is all you know. The further I get from my quit date, the more proud of myself I am, the more I can see myself not smoking in the future! NY withdrawal symptoms were severe and many times it came down to the decision to quit no matter what. During my preperation period, I learned, that until I could be honest with myself regarding my habit and accountable to myself I would never quit. I was right! As I resisted one opportunity after another, I realized I AM STRONG, AND I CAN PROTECT MY QUIT!!! Anybody can, they just have to make the personal DECISION to see them through the hard times. I have tried to look at my discomfort as a positive sign that my body is busting free of nicotine!! That's what I wanted right? And finally, if I gave in and smoked a cigarette or started smoking, I would have to go through that again!!!! I'm not a glutton for punishment, so I protect my quit! And that's how I made it through the first month!
Thanks Jackie!
