Nope no Do Not Disturb functionality though I suppose you could put as your Status Update Do Not Disturb or change your Avatar and Profile Image to a Do Not Disturb image.
As far as the notifications in your Inbox. You can change your preferences to minimize the notifications you get but it won't completely eliminate them. Also you can mark everything as read if you want to.
If there is an online presence (Who's Online) functionality in the future perhaps there will be an option to hide your presence if you don't want it to be known. Never heard of a Do Not Disturb option on any community I have ever heard of. I've used quite a few in my days. And if it had one, it would probably kill the community if it were widely used....
Only thing that would work is not logging in since site is publicly available.

Not sure what you are talking about, avatars and all. but I'm just saying, Good Morning Ken!

Pops was talking about the notification bell icon in the upper right near the avatar (circle image) that lets you know how many unread notifications appear in your Inbox .
I scroll thru my notifications - and check out anything that interests me. And then I click on "mark all read". Then you can start with a clean slate. I really have no interest in going back to most blogs and reading every comment that was made since mine. If I want to I have that option, but I don't feel like I have to.
Now why didn't I think of that???? I suspected when I asked this "Q" that I was going to be made out to look like a villain....oh well, I wear it well I guess....;-)
Not a villain at all. I'm looking forward to talking at EX5.
You KNOW I was teasing, right????
If I thought any different...you would know it believe that lol
It's all good.....now go get back in the pool.....
I think asking if there is a "Do Not Disturb" option might be pretty effective.

I think I must not be reading this correctly as I am not sure what you are saying and what Sootie agreed with . "Who" is this question being asked to? "Who" is the one asking it? How do you feel it would be effective?
I know the feature doesn't exist and I'll get the response of "Log out and you'll be in "Do Not Disturb" mode" from other community managers. I'll need more info on what you envision "Do Not Disturb" mode to do and not do.
As bonniebee mentions below it seems counter-intuitive to what an online community is. And it also seems to be the opposite of your online presence request. I definitely see why some of you might request it and want to know more but it seems that perhaps there might be some people who might see it and use it not knowing what it does and others who might use it and end up relapsing because they've isolated themselves and aren't in a confident place in their quit to isolate themselves and still stay quit. Certainly there are long-time quitters who lurk here but still use the site regularly without commenting or posting blogs/discussions.
On a side note...
There is a way I can "Deactivate" a person but they can still log into EX Plan. As long as they don't go to the community while logged in, their community account remains inactive. Then once they go to the community while logged in, their account is enabled again. When a person is deactivated their avatar goes gray and the word (Deactivated) appears next to their username like dancingthrulife_6.4.13. She asked to be fully deactivated so she can't even log in at this time. Should she request to be enabled, we'll do so so she can log in again.

Mark----I can't speak for Ellen----but what I THOUGHT she was saying is.........
Once you ask the question "Is there a Do Not Disturb option" the rest of us would pretty much get the idea that..... for awhile at least....you don't want communication.
That was how I "took" Ellen's comment and that was what I "agreed" to.
Makes it pretty clear that if you are looking for a Do Not Disturb option........you do not want to be disturbed.
No "button" necessary.
Sootie Thanks for that clarification, that is PRECISELY what I meant. Mark I did not understand why there was any confusion there. Sorry, I should have addressed that when I saw it but it pretty much went over my head.
Ah I get it. Thanks for the clarification Sootie. I don't think that people would know you wouldn't want to be disturbed unless they came across your question though. It's not like it's a big billboard informing people you wouldn't want to be disturbed.
