I had today for my quit date and started my chantix yesterday, I felt great and was doing good till about 4pm and then I smoked. Any sugestions as I just started this program.
I was told to start taking the Chantix a week before I set my quit date, that way it was in my system. I smoked while on them but noticed myself being able to go longer in between smokes! They also tasted real bad, think the pill does that too. I suggest you keep trying! I smoked for 30+ years and can proudly tell you that because of Chantix I haven't smoked a cigarette in 43 days! Hang in there Melinda. There's a group called CHANTIX-ERS, check it out. Sara
I would suggest you change your quit date to a week from when you started taking Chantix but only smoke when you feel strong urges-Enjoy the goofy dreams that are coming
Two very good responses ahead of me. You felt great until 4 pm. So what happened at 4 pm? You got an urge to smoke and you just caved into that urge? Did you practice delaying it? Did you try deep breathing, going for a walk, sucking on a straw, snapping a rubber band.....? Did you try any of the suggestions on here? If not, if you expect Chantix to do all the work for you - it ain't gonna happen. It takes perseverance and a willingness to experience discomfort. Keep working the program and (key words) - don't give up. Success is around the corner. Giulia (2 years 6 mos +)
Thank you for reminding me of the things I should bedoing. I know this isn't going to be easy. I haven't smoked today and I can already feel a difference physically. Amazing huh? I think it will also help to do what I did when I went into recovery from drinking,,,, 12 step recovery is great, We only have one nicotine anonymous meeting here in Tyler where I live and it is on a night that I go to school. Oh, well I signed on here to get support and so far you guys are great. I will keep ya posted on progress. Melinda
Thank you for your advice. I have been a little confused about the chantix so I will go check out their site, I haven't smoked today and I have a plan for the rest of the day. Nap, School, studying and cleaning house. I think a plan for the day is important. I smoked for 25 years quit for 9 years and started back 2 1/2 years ago. I was puffing on a cigar around a bunch of folks in recovery from alcohol. I had no idea that cigars could take me bac to cigerettes. I found out that smoking is smoking.
Try the chantix it works. I had been smoking for 25 years, and I have been tobacco free for 5 days now. I feel pretty good. The Chantix helps a lot. However, your dreams will be extremely vivid and weird. Enjoy
That is true, the recommendation is to be on chantix for about a week. You tried to stop smoking all together too soon....the medication needs to build up in your system and as the days go by you'll notice the change start to happen. Keep it up, you're fine....
Keep busy Melinda, you will find that you get so much more done now that you don't smoke. I like Guilia's suggestions of the deep breathing and distractions, it does really help. Chantix script instructions are to set a quit date for a week after starting so that it gets into your system and it worked for me. After about 4 days those stupid stogies tasted no good. I went out tonight to a party for the first time in a while and found that nobody at the party smoked. It's so out of style! My kids are proud of me too.
