I was under the impression that if a post (blog or conversation, etc.) had responses that the post itself could not be deleted on Jive. For the obvious reason that the responses then make no sense. But I must have been wrong on that as someone just left and all their content (except in video & quote sharing) is gone. With the new platform, will people be able to delete their content?
I'm dumbfounded why Thesegoto11 just up and left with no explanation at all 
I don't get it! And I asked what was happening but got no response, that's a good question Giulia.....

I found that peculiar also - but something we "know not of" must have offended them. I'm sorry they felt compelled to leave the site and sorry for the loss of their content because there was good stuff there that many could learn from. Aside from all the commentary afterward that now makes no sense. There was a gal here many years ago who left and deleted years worth of her blogs and that made me so sad. I can understand being angry, upset - whatever - but to take away all the valuable and needed support you proffered... that could help so many seeking freedom from this addiction.... I would feel very selfish if I did that. But then - that's me. Hurt people - hurt people.

I am thinking something must have been said in a pm about which we don't have knowledge. Other than that, idk!
I have had that happen to me on EX twice. Someone attacks you on pm....or, someone tells you not to ever respond to their blogs again in a pm. It is very hurtful and frustrating.

Unfortunately I cannot prevent people from deleting their own posts. I wish I could as it is always frustrating when people have put thoughtful time into responding and then someone deletes the post. I know there are some cases which people have reported it's not possible but I know unfortunately in most cases it is. Any comment that is associated to that post is then removed as well.
On the new platform users will not be allowed to delete their own posts or others posts.
If anyone sees a member attacking another member of the community. Please report the post as abuse and do not respond. I'll take care of it.

Good. Perhaps when people know that, they will take better care of what they put in "print," and measure they're words first. I assume that goes for blogs also.
Any comment that is associated to that post is then removed as well.
Well that's certainly not true with the latest case where the body of the blogs themselves have been deleted but not the titles. All commentary is still extant. Fortunately. It's nice that some wisdom remains from the experience to be passed on.

Let me clarify this means they won't be able to delete the post in its entirety. They will still be able to edit at least for a short period of time after posting content.

I was speaking to being able to delete the post in its entirety and having the child posts to that post/comment get deleted as well. That will not be possible on the new platform.
It seems that the person edited their post and deleted the body text leaving the subject and all the comments. Without the body text the content doesn't have the full context. I don't doubt the comments are still valuable though.
First , I respect the author of the blog first and foremost . I have seen over and over how a blog can get very off track . I think blogs and discussions are two different things in this forum , least that's how I saw it when I first came . Blogs , the author normally gets to choose whether they want responses or not , it's their story , diary so to speak and the discussion section well that speaks for itself a place to discuss topics .

While I do like input and same or varying opinions are helpful I feel it's the right of the author who is blogging to make that choice .
As far as our ex member leaving , I am sad that they are gone for whatever reason they've chosen or had to leave and do hope they return . One persons opinion is not everyone's .
At the bottom of any blog you write there is a box you can check to Restrict Comments. (The feature is not available with Discussions, however.)

Yes here blogs and discussions are two different content types among the various other content types (polls, events, status updates, documents, videos etc). Yes Blogs are used more for "journals" in this community whereas others they are used as a monologue of sorts in other online communities.

I don't know off hand but I'll find out in the next two weeks or so if you can choose whether you can choose to allow responses on your blog. There will definitely be discussion sections. We're working to simplify and consolidate things in the new community as much as possible. We've reduced the number of Groups down further so there are fewer places people can end up that might not have recent activity.
Each community has it's own structure so I liken it to moving into a new house. You take your furniture and move it to your new place. The decorations and pictures get hung back on the walls. Most of them you'll see right away. Others we may need to find nails for and will look for places to hang them after we do some painting and perhaps some light upgrading. Some furniture goes back in the main livingroom as it still makes sense and fits. Other things don't fit and end up in the basement living space or perhaps even basement storage. We're going to do our best to make it all fit in a way that makes sense. As before, we're moving as much of the content as possible as retaining the content is valuable. In some cases things will change form to successfully move. Things related this community platform and the previous community platform will likely get archived in the new community since there will be some functionality changes.
And I agree. Each person has their own opinion. We may not always agree but we should always try to understand other's opinions even if we don't share them.

Giulia I already knew that , I chose to leave mine if people wanted to respond but I'm asking Mark if this feature will be on the new site as well . Thanks though , appreciate you pointing it out so others know .
If someone created "it", they should be able to delete it if they choose to. I find it interesting that if something is posted and everyone agrees with the author they don't seem to mind. If someone has a different opinion, well...
As far as people leaving, lots of people leave or only stop by to celebrate an anniversary. Some people just like to make an announcement.
