Give and get support around quitting
Hi everyone. Newbie here. Smoker for 50 years with successful bouts of quitting here and there - longest run: 5 years. The effects of smoking have been pounding on the door for awhile (denial!), but I was recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes. Smoking has a dramatic effect on my blood sugar, I need to LOSE 30 pounds and stop smoking NOW. Daunting, and not a little terrified that quitting smoking will = weight gain and weight gain will have a detrimental effect on my blood sugars. I would like to hear how other diabetics have faced these challenges with success. Thanks for listening

I’m not diabetic - but, I can tell you that you are in a great place for support! One thing I did to avoid the weight gain - and I would assume this would also help with the diabetes - is I began a walking program. Of course talk to your doctor - but walking can really help in many ways! Plus - stick around here! Congrats on deciding to quit!
Welcome to the Ex. I'm not a diabetic, but we're here to support you on journey to be smoke free.

Hi and Welcome to Ex’s Cherylcat54
Truthfully, I think no matter what you should quit smoking, however, I think you should consult your Doctor about quitting and weight gain and see what he/she suggests. In the meantime, may I suggest you read My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX to start learning about the journey quit...we are here for you...keep close...~ Colleen 641 DOF
