Why do intelligent adults think that it is acceptable to bring their children to work when schools are closed because of the coronavirus?

Some people may not have a choice. It's a strange world we're living in. Not everyone can work from home and not everyone has backup options for their children. Employers are having to be flexible and workers are too. I saw a report for how many employers don't have paid time off and it's shocking. With some schools potentially canceling the rest of the school year it might be something you see until people make other arrangements.

I feel for people without daycare or family to help. But if I get this virus - I am of the age that it could be fatal. I am also alone - so if I get sick, I have no one to help me with doctor visits, groceries or picking up medicine for me. I feel when people choose to become a parent, along with that decision comes the responsibility of obtaining child care which she has choosen to not do because of money. But she manages to find money for everything else....
I spent my entire Birthday week-end alone because I do not want to be around my family or anyone else's....
They closed all the schools for a reason.......
People are not taking this as seriously as they should be and it is making me angry. A coworker told me she’s going to Florida. I said, “oh, for spring break?” She replied “No, this weekend. Flights are so cheap.” And laughed. I gave her a look and just walked away before I said something mean.
Wake up people! They do not close schools, shut down sports, or close down bars and restaurants for no reason!!
Maybe all the parents with kids could stay in a certain part of the building you work in if they can with their children and people that don’t want to be around children could stay in another part of the building and work and move your computers into the area that you work if that is possible. I don’t know where you work so I don’t know if that is possible. I would not want to be in that situation. Someone at work needs to come up with a solution. Remember that movie 9 to 5 and they made a daycare in another part of the building for the parents to be close to their kids. I hope it all works out for you and you don’t get sick.
I understand your annoyance Jennifer...I really do. It is kind of what I was trying to say in my blog...No Easy Answers. when schools close for safety....that's GREAT. But where do the children go? To child care? Then, child care is closed for safety......and where do the children go. And who pays all the people out of work?
I am surprised your work place simply lets parents bring their children to work.....they can be somewhat of a distraction and if there are many of them...chaotic. I direct seven child care centers and even we do not have children in the office! They are in the centers where their program is.
HOWEVER-----these are CRAZY TIMES! Parents may , as you state, have made plans for their children. But those plans are now suddenly gone. Today, at 5:45PM our Governor mandated the closure of all licensed child care centers for 14 days. BOOM! My parents now have "no plans" for child care. Everyone understands why the Governor felt he had to do this......but again....NO EASY ANSWERS.
Hope things improve in the work place and that you stay healthy.
That is a very good question!!
I wish I had the answer!!!!
