Has anybody had pain in their gums? I’m on Day 10 and my gums are alittle swollen and sore. Last time I cut down this happened. Thank you in
I found this when I did a search on the topic: Why Do My Teeth Hurt When I Quit Smoking?
Hope it helps!
Thanks Nancy. I actually saw this and was wondering if anybody had this happen to them and what did they do or what happened eventually cause of it. It's awfully painful!
I think a visit to your dentist might be in order. Don't know if they would be able to help, but figure it's worth a try!
Many of us quitters have dental / gum issues. Going to the dentist of course is a good idea.
I have used warm salt water rinses.
I also like golden seal when I have gum problems. I open a capsule, it's a little bitter, and apply it to the spot that hurts. It heals the gum. Do not use more than two weeks. My dentists have always been surprised how well it heals. But if you have an infection it can heal the gum.. over the infection.. not good.
Clove oil helps temporarily relieve tooth ache.
I hope you feel better. Congratulations on your quit!!
Thank you Nancy, I will try the salf water and I bought some gum over the counter stuff. Seems to help for a couple hours. Where did you buy the golden seal? It is an herb? Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate it!
You know what else might help if this is temporary. Anbesol can be rubbed on your gums and will numb them for a while. I've had lots of dental issues over the years and always keep it around for an emergency.
Swanbird Goldenseal I honestly don't recall where I picked up the Goldenseal. Over the years, I have used different vitamin shops. I just checked my current brand is Nature's Way - 400 mg. It's on Amazon. *Do NOT use if you have an infection. For usage: open it up, and just put a small amount on the gum. Do NOT use for more than 2 weeks.
When I didn't have clove oil, or Anbesol, I've chewed on a clove and it gave a little relief.
Hoping you feel better. Yup, the toxins are leaving your body !!
Hi Swanbird Congratulations on 10 days of Freedom...You are in the double digits...whoo hoo...I am so sorry your gums hurt...I didn’t have this problem, however, I agree with Nancy Youngatheart.7.4.12 it may be time to see your Dentist to be safe then sorry....keep us posted on how you are doing...~ Colleen 390 DOF
Big congrats on your 10 days smoke free. Seems like the only answer is a visit to the dentist. Hope this works out for you.
I had dental issues too and it pissed me off! No one warned us about that part, not that we'd listen anyway, right? But yeah, it's completely normal to have weird effects in your body when you quit.
Water pik is wonderful for dental pain. It is just your body adjusting to all the abuse (we gave it)
I had a lot of gum pain. It hurt quite a bit, but it lasted only a few days. Advil helped me a lot. I attribute the pain to blood rushing once again through the gums once I stopped using nicotine, which is a blood vessel constricter.
