A bacardigirl sighting!
Good to see you, girl! Better STILL to see you are still quit!
The first 12 years of my life have been the longest I've gone without a cigarette. I'm now one month into my first (and hopefully last) quit attempt. Each day presents its own unique challenge(s), but I'm in it to win it at this point. I'm determined NOT to fail.
Open invite to anyone currently reading this: if you think you're going to mess up your quit, please reach out and I'll do whatever I can to help. You are not alone and there are so many of us who want you to succeed.
My 7 year+ quit was my first and only attempt at this. I made the decision that I was not going to smoke another cigarette NO MATTER WHAT and never had that conversation with myself again. Closing that door, I think, made it a bit easier. \
Congrats on a month! Keep going!
I had quit in 2011 and it lasted 2 years and 2 months, but I continued to chew nicotine gum heavily the whole time. I finally stopped smoking for the LAST time fourteen months ago, and just marked one year of being completely free of nicotine this past weekend. That is the longest I have ever been smoke- and nicotine-free since I was 14 years old! And I will not go back!
DavesTime CONGRATULATIONS on your freedom!
I started at age 17 and continued for way too long...I have been quit now for 5 years, 10 months, and one week. This is the longest I have been quit since I started. I never regret quitting but I will ALWAYS regret starting.

I quit 8 yrs once
Once John. That scares me You mean after 8 years you smoked again?
I quit 9 years ago. It was my one and only attempt. I never even literally touched a cigarette after that.
Quitting smoking is something I have never taken for granted. I saw a guy waiting outside the store today smoking while his wife was inside shopping. My first thought was that was me at one time. It brought back memories of the fear I had the week prior to quitting and the doubts I had that I would not succeed. How could I carry on life without cigarettes? They were the center of my life, when I was content, stressed, after dinner, watching TV, reading a book, road trips, work breaks, after an enjoyable dinner, drinking, having conversations with friends, having tantrums, "rewarding" myself with a project well done ...........it was endless all the daily activities that a cigarette was a part of. But GUESS WHAT? I learned not only did I not need them but all those things became even more enjoyable without the horrible smoking. So happy now I quit and after all these years I am still amazed that I accomplished it. It took time to learn how to live life without them but it was time very well spent.
I quit for 8 years and then had just one. I know better now.
This quit is the one.
