Still not done, but getting closer. Grandkids here now till late tomorrow. Hope to finish this painting sometime over the weekend. I can see lots of areas I need to work on. But I am new at portrait painting so any progress is good, lol.
Fabtastic work Missy ! Cool I vote for the one Lady G wearing orange top - gentle hug❤
Awww well a tad late for that. I change things up as I paint and its hard going backwards, for me anyway. Since this is a new subject matter for me I decided to go with white top because it helps me concentrate on the face more. The more colors around the subject seem to distract me. Im weird artist, I know. I hope to get better at this but am pleased with me progress thus far Once I am more comfortable doing faces I will take more time figuring out clothes and textures in them. Hair texture is another area I stink at. Looks to flat to me. Im working on that more yet...plus a necklace to add yet, if G would please send me a close up pic of it, that would also be helpful
No worries your a good artist please take no offense - YOUR the artist ❤ I love all of them!
Oh hon, I never took offense, I was just explaining what to progressed as it did. PLUS I love people telling me what they see and do and do not like...it helps me improve
Amazing...you are really good...I love looking at your paintings...
Have fun with the grandkids and I hope you get some paint time this weekend...~ Colleen 220 DOF
I see Love. Great Job, Missy. Go "G" Giulia you look amazingly beautiful. She has truly captured your smile and your eyes, Wow!
And here I thought it was going to be a musical progression of the G chord. lol
Necklass - That's my Quit Beetle It should be big enough for you on that blog, if not, let me know. (For some reason Jive wouldn't take me to that Quit Beetle when I just checked it. So hopefully it will take you here to the original bog: Precious Quit It's at the bottom of the first page (on my computer anyway.)
Do you do a separate sheet of paper for all these, or are they all on one canvas? Do you just sort erase the background and paint over it or do a whole new picture each time? It's fascinating. The last one is fab! Got the smile! Got the rings around the tree trunk. For something you're in the process of learning, I'd say you get an A! I'm humbled to be one of your early subjects.
The pic I printed of you is hard to see the beetle. Got it now
Twins in bed now. McCoy is only one up and he and I are getting ready to watch a movie. Hubby is already snoozing, lol.
Its all on the same canvas. I always start with a rough sketch on a primed canvas and then begin adding paint. The pencil helps me see where I am going. The only thing I didn't show was the gridding I use to get proportions right. I erase it before I start to paint. This photograph I had of you I got from your homepage on Ex. I had it developed but it was a little on blurry side, so was sorta hard to see good definition. So anyway everything you see s the transformation of the painting from beginning to end
I just take pictures as I change it and paint. I decide I like or dont like something and paint over it as I did the backgrounds as well and the shirt color. I will go check out that necklace now. Next time I post the painting it will be last one. I find taking pictures as I paint also helps me see my mistakes and improvements When it is complete I will mail it to you
OMG, Missy, this is amazing, you are getting better and better, if that's even possible!
Thank you my dear, you're also on my paint list
Here's the original photo if that helps any.
I don't know how you can just give away your art like that, but I'd be more than ecstatic to accept it.
Giving it away is the best part in creating art for me
You are an amazing artist!
Thank you for the compliment
It’s her!! Great work Missy!
I wish I could sketch like you!
Thanks Posamari , my secret weapon is gridding. Seriously. I learned it in HS Art Class and I had a fantastic teacher, I otherwise really have no other formal training.
Gridding is so easy. Just make a grid over the picture that you want to draw/paint and make the same grid on your paper/canvas. go by each square. Its sorta like looking at a puzzle and fitting the pieces together. But for me , it helps me with proportions more than anything. I grid in pencil then erase the grid lines or paint over them. A few times practice and you will be off to the races! Give it a whirl, its sorta fun Once you have done a few it gets easier and easier.
Horses are my favorite thing to paint, next to dogs and I also studied their anatomy and photos and the values ( lights and dark shades ) at great length when I started doing them. We had horses so I took many pics of them doing different things, standing and such, great practice and a live model to boot
Wow, that's amazing. I used to draw ALL the time but I got so frustrated about my inability to make something look the way I THOUGHT it should that I just put everything away. I never heard of gridding. I did try reading "Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain" but I never got very far with that.
You are a wonder, my friend.
WOW Missy you are so talented. ♥️
