....Since we put our boy down. Heavy heart coming and going today. Not helping that I have the flu also.
I miss our Merlin....so does Nico. His moaning at times, so sad. I may need to see about anxiety med for him to help him get through this. They were a tight duo.
Has anyone else ever lost a dog with another dog still at home? Any tips?

Oh no! I’m so sorry! I must have missed your blog where you mentioned this. I don’t have any tips for you. I’ve never had multiple dogs at a time. Thinking of you and your family.

I know it must be so hard for Nico because Merlin was his company while you and Pete slept.

I have always believed all the animals I have had and are gone are together in the prettiest field with flowers and a creek, sunshine and trees and no pain ... all just enjoying together ... Giulia , I feel like I have been slam dunked and want all this to be over...it is like crap... what's next?????? So I gonna take me own advice and just start EXPECTING GOOD THINGS TO START HAPPENING......Like my one blog, I feel like I am ready to deliver, ugh!
Oh well. I just tossed tennis balls to Nico out in front yard for 5 minutes and I m exhausted. So here I am back on the sofa. I was told because I didn't get into the office soon enough I could not have the Tamilfu....but am on Zpac due to wheezing in chest. At least the chills have stopped. The aches are beyond what I ever experienced before.
Anyway, I have more time to poke around on the site since I am out of commission for awhile. You guys will be sick of me in couple days if ya arnt already, lol

I'm so sorry Missy, it's so heartbreaking losing a furbaby we had to put Sam's buddy Duff down 6 years ago he was 12 we let the Vet do surgery to remove Cancer which ended up that the anesthesia was shutting his kidneys down anyway Sam was at a loss for a couple of weeks we just cuddled and snuggled with her more and played with her more and eventually she came around and stopped looking for him XO, here's a pic of Duff and Sam....

thank you for that. Duff was a beautiful Shepherd. I am sleeping inquest room so I dont' pass this bug to hubby so I have Nico in here with me for the next couple nights. When he goes out to do his business looks like he is looking for Merlin, but when I hit tennis balls for him he seems as happy as ever. Last night, his moans though, were heartbreaking. Thank your for the hugs and encouragement.

So So Sorry. Just before my alarm went off in the morning my dog would come and nudge me a couple of times. After I had but her down from old age I swear for several weeks in the morning after she was gone she was still nudging me. They are very special those dogs

Please get better soon, drink lots and lots of fluids...let yourself mourn, Merlin was part of your family. We only had one dog at a time but when we lost her, we were all lost. It takes time. The cats adored her and THEY were lost and kept looking for her. Sending you loving and gentle hugs.

I have that saying on my wall....that IS my idea of heaven and I look forward to seeing all of our animal family members when (if??) I get there.
Hard as this is to say, I think you will find your other dog will get over the separation in somewhat of a short time. We have gone through this many times as we always seem to have multiples........seems as if after a while the smell of your Merlin will disappear........dogs are very much tied to smell. And then you will see Nico turn the corner. This was advice our vet gave us when we lost our first dog and it did turn out to be true.
So sad for you......they are the most loyal and loving beings and I never feel our house is a home without them. Our animals have taught our children (and us) so many lessons on unconditional love, loyalty, friendship and the sheer joy of play. As I said before....comfort yourself with the act that you gave him a wonderful life
Oh I couldn't agree more. We have always had 2 dogs...always. They really do make a house a home and yes the lessons they gave our boys over the years and us as well. Somehow I just feel deep in my soul, they are are part of God extended to to us...and I feel that way because of their unconditional love. Anyway, thank you Sootie.
Also Sootie, I have no doubt YOU WILL be in heaven when that day comes....just not for a very long time. xoxo

I am so sorry for your loss. We all feel with you. We know the pain and hurt you feel for your special guy. All animals have their own unique personality. Give your other pup comfort, space sometimes helps too, and as always, love as you both grieve together. We are all here for you-- hugs--
I surely appreciate your kind words. Nico is getting extra attention and I think he is beginning to show signs of improvement. Today I cleaned out the area where both dogs stay in the house. Its a fairly nice size area and I have it gated off so they can still be part of the family when we are entertaining or the grandkids are here. Anyway, I removed all of Merlins things, his bed and feeding things and stuff and. Nico went right in and laid down in his clean area and bed and seemed fine.. Last night he didn't whine, although he was with me in guest room. Hugs back

I am so very sorry. I didn’t see a blog. I would have tried to comfort you. I never had this with 2 dogs but I did with my 2 cats. They were close. I think the young one thought the other was her mama even though it was a male. He was so good with her too. When we had to put him to sleep it was awful. She was meowing all over for him and wouldn’t eat. The vet told us to get another cat so we did. The get along but it’s not the same. My heart aches for you. Sending a gentle hug. I hope you feel better soon. Only nice things are coming your way. I believe it
Thanks so much, tears just keep coming and going. I have long periods of time when I am okay...then I do something or look at something and think of him and it breaks my heart, but I know this is normal to grieve, as we loved him so very much and things will get easier soon. I do believe my being sick onto of this is making me a tad more sensitive. Love ya!

I am doing better.. No chills today. Chest congestion beginning to loosen up. This really threw me for a loop but I am on the mend

I am so so sorry I did not respond to this sooner bur your blog was hiding. My heart breaks for you at the loss of your baby. I also have 2 that are unbelievably close and getting on in years. Their bond is so incredibly tight and I am concerned for the inevitable when one passes.
I was born into a dog loving family. There are 4 of us “kids”. Only one of us has human children, the rest of us have dogs, so I don’t say this without experience. As unpopular as this may appear, I have discovered that the sooner you can get a new fur baby the better it will be for both you and especially Nico. Dogs are pack animals and need their own kind. You both will heal a lot faster with a new baby to take care of.

I hadn't seen this picture earlier. I love big dogs. Such gentile giants. There is such a void in our lives when they're gone. I know this is still very painful for you. Heck, I still miss my Cloud and it's been 3 months

You said it perfect it comes in waves. You think your coping , it might be getting easier, and wham - a toy ,, a memory. Last week I came in my house ( I always greet my family animals, dogs and cats and they come to the door, yes even the cats, my cats are like dogs) anyway I opened the door and and said Hi Lucky and frozen. He left us 3 years ago. It made me cry for him. Yes my dear friend it comes in waves. Only people that have animal families can understand. It also comes in waves with family lost too. Come on These we’re not “pets” they are/were our families too Damm I have such a bad urge right now. NOPE I better go for a short walk
