After the Patch

I’m now on the 17mg patch for the next two weeks. How do I prepare for the end of the two weeks and go without the patch? I do have a box of Nicorette gum but I would rather not use it. I think of the patches as a crutch and don’t want to keep relying on a ‘chemical ‘ to stay quit. I’m worried. Advice???

Stay on that pach as long as you need to. Silly.  If you live the rest of your life with a patch that is a million times better than ever taking one puff again.  do what yo need to , but  DO NOT RISK YOUR QUIT.  you will know when the time is right. but do not risk your quit by stopping when you don't feel it is right. Cut the friggin patch in half, in quarters or what ever you need to do. But DO NOT RISK YOUR QUIT.  OK?

Really? I feel like that would be a cop out. Hmmm, I don’t think I can be fully quit if I keep relying on a tool.

And , also, one day at a time. you may feel different in two weeks.  Two weeks! that is half a month away my man.

Matthew 6:34 King James Version (KJV)

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.  In other words, one day at a time.  bless you and your ex-smoking heart.

Using the patch IS NOT SMOKING.  There is a video on this site somewhere by Dr. Hurt from Mayo Clinic on NRT's.  I listened to it obsessively at the beginning of my quit.  You are doing great. Take it one day at a time.

Karen... I wish I had seen this video years ago!!  He really answers a lot of questions, and makes some brilliant statements that I'm going to put in my arsenal/tool kit, especially in regards to NRT.

I will add there are one or two things he says that I don't agree with, but I can "take what helps and leave the rest" with those"   .  I wish the video were chopped up in sections regarding each of the zombie myths he's busting.

i think he is a heart specialist, and yes there are alot of things he says that are brilliant.  and it is chopped up into 10 minute segments on each of the zombies, it is on youtube. funny name for an anti smoking crusader is it not?  Dr. Pipe.  ha ha
