The Allen Carr book helps alot. You should definitely get it. It breaks it down and brings " the monster" more into perspective. I am on Day 4 so we can be buds. I have also smoked on and off for 40 years.  I had a terrible breakdown today and cried for 15 minutes. I almost had myself convinced that just 1 would be OK. I chewed some nicotine gum, walked around a building, cried some more and finally I am OK.   I carry a piece of paper around that says

I want a cigarette.

Well, I've decided not to do that anymore so what can I do for the 3 minutes that this craving will last."

I got it from this sight. It just reminds me that it won't last. It is definitely all I was thinking about until I got myself calmed down. I visit this site and try to breathe through it. It really has us brainwashed. Be easy on yourself.  Don't be scared. I tell myself everyday it's just today I'm not smoking.

Sorry for the delay, I have been out doing errands. Congratulations on  3 days smoke free.  There is help here because there is strength in numbers and we are here to support you.   So you are you using NRT"s.  Do you have a plan?  How are you going to prepare?   I am a firm believer that education is the best way to have a successful quit.  Until I learned about nicotine addiction.  Smoking was a vicious cycle for me. Get started on this site if haven't already, go to Quitting Tips & Techniques | My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX  and if there are any areas you need to address such as tracking, triggers, NRT"s.   You have come to the right place for a new day and a new beginning.. This is all about you and what you are willing to do to be smoke free. Quitting smoking requires hard work.  It can be challenging at times but you will learn that it is doable if you adhere to NOPE not one puff ever no matter what. You can do this.

Start first, by educating yourself about nicotine addiction.

Remember: Education is the key to a successful quit.

Read: Freedom from Nicotine My Journey Home and Nicotine Addiction 101

Here are the links: Nicotine Addiction 101    and Freedom from Nicotine - The Journey Home: free PDF version

I also encourage you to read. Allen Carr’s book, “Easy Easier Way to Quit Smoking

Reading can be a distraction and gain knowledge on the addiction of nicotine which makes for a successful quit.

NRT is nicotine replacement therapy, such as a patch like you are using.
